Have to remember that all us year one players had it so easy back in the day with masterworking and all that.
The biggest grind we ever had was heroic public events for exotic drops.
Even though it’s free, the climb for new players will be so big, and they don’t have an inter seasonal stockpile of resources like we do.

Players that start New Light, start at power level 750 with only the base game, CoO and Warmind available. They’ll be 750 while doing 300-340 content. Why will they even need cores?
-
Well cores will still be needed for masterworks, and they’ll have to balance spending shards between xur and other vendors to get all the exotics and items we had over a year and a half to collect.

That’s literally what I’m having to do right now.. recently moved to pc, I had no exotics, no nothing etc. I need to balance everything out as well as I can. I need at least 172 shards per week to buy everything Xur sells because I don’t want to get anything that he sold for 23-29 shards from a 97 shard fated engram. It’s a tall order. This means I can’t spend my shards on glimmer, planetary mats, cores, or raid banners. Shards are just too valuable to me right now until I get some useful exotics. So I also have to farm the mats to infuse... without the needed ghosts it’s a pain in the ass. Glimmer? It’s not so bad, but it does cost 8k to infuse each time and if I want to grind some easy shards from the menagerie then I need to go buy some raid banners... glimmer is no big deal now that my chalice is maxed and I don’t care about those stupid barge chests any more though. Cores. I’m not being an asshat here. I’ve had literally no problem keeping my cores up. I’ve masterworked more than 6 weapons, a whole set of armour and got 2 sets of gear and a bunch of weapons I like to max light. I started 5 weeks and one day ago. I’m still running low on shards every Friday after Xur visits, planetary mats are a pain in the ass, glimmer is okay, cores are the only thing I have a consistent amount of

Though my hope is that that content will now have updated reward drops. If they are basically making things universally 750 for starting light, all content should go to around 700.
-
I agree with this. I also think all content difficulty should be upgraded. If all new players start at 750 and strikes and nightfalls are still a faceroll 500 and 540 activity with no challenge I don’t see it keeping newer players occupied enough to purchase more of the game
-
Yep. Basically everything needs to be moved to that baseline level. Most activities should go to 700. Anything that is a challenging activity and is supposed to be a season by season challenge (nightfalls) should go to 750. Still doable by new light players, but difficult. Remove the challenge cards and basically just revamp how nightfalls work from there. Though I am hoping that Shadow Keep raises our power up to at least 900.
