If Nightfalls had the option of matchmaking. Wonderfull.
Won't happen.
Bungie have the principle of forcing fireteams down our throats and there is a vocal minority on these forums to defend it.
Example
Escalation Protocol is a public event which everyone can take part in. However the only way to get the reward chest at the end is to farm Nightfalls for Rasputin Key Fragments which is fireteam only.
As a solo player you can contribute to the activity but you won't be rewarded for it.

I got soloed it and got six a week from heroic missions per character when farming for escalation protocol. Two drop per mission, and I could run three missions. It was a little annoying, but it wasn’t that bad at all. Farming strikes for the brother Vance gear was way worse.

Zero desire to do it with my Titan and warlock.

You can get those frags from doing other activities, and nightfalls are pretty easy to solo if you only use positive modifiers
-
You get 1 for a heroic activity. Which is available to you once a week per character or you get 7 for a single nightfall run. Hmmmmm
-
As I said, solo it. You should get more rewards for a more challenging piece of content. If you aren’t good enough to solo it then you take longer to get rewards... as I think it should be to make the game actually challenging.
-
Which does not answer the question the original poster asks. It's just a pointless, elitest reply. No one is asking you to do a thing differently. Solo it if you want, LFG if you want. Optional matchmaking would just allow others to play the game too.
-
Exactly. LFG is optional matchmaking. Why are u crying about a 540 strike? It’s not even hard if you have thumbs
-
I was just arguing your example. I agree that optional matchmaking is good for nightfalls. But we already have it, it’s called guided games. Your response is going to be something like: “Queue times are too long!!” But whose fault is that? Bungie tried matchmaking, nobody uses it. They aren’t going to waste development time trying again.
-
Queues are too long because it relies on clans having a member missing and on an activity requiring only three guardians, that is rare. Bungie have never tried matchmaking Nightfalls. I'm a day, Destiny 1 one solo player. What they did do was create a playlist in PvP for solo players which fractured the playerbase and made matchmaking in PvP longer. A good idea but implemented it poorly. Totally different question being asked. PvP however is also badly matchmade.
-
Guided games is a half assed attempt at a real problem. In September we will have a huge influx of new players who will be unable to take part in activities and will just move on if Bungie don't come up with an answer for new/casual players Look at the player number drop off Destiny 2 has had. Look at the percentage of players taking part in activities such as raids. Destiny is not new player friendly (just check the recruitment page). Now I'm not saying that Raids should have matchmaking (they absolutely should not) however Bungie need to rethink their matchmaking because if not the the new blood which comes in when Destiny is free to play will be short lived.
-
The reason that matchmaking is implemented like that is because how else would you use a score card? That is the only thing separating nightfalls from heroic strikes and having a clear leader of the group lets that happen, just having 3 person matchmaking with no scorecard makes it a strike. Not a nightfall
-
Scorecard... really. That is the reason it can't be done. You may be as short sighted as Bungie if that is what you really believe. Happy hunting guardian.

Is there anything else that makes a nightfall different than a strike?
