every time i see someone talk about enhancement cores they mention that they are forced to use gear they don't like offhand and move on, but i want to focus on that in here. the problem is that the normal legendary weapons are not worth using unless they are god rolls because most perks are stat based and hardly any of them change how the gun looks, most guns in d1 atleast had difrent sights to choose from, but it feels as though scope choice has been mostly abandoned.(especially when it comes to curated rolls and new weapons) I would like to see perks that change how the gun looks, or perks that change animations that you see while shooting so that each gun feels more individual. for example why not have a perk for snipers that converts the gun in to a bolt action but increases the damage and allows bullets to over penetrate. or how about a perk that makes you have to cock the hammer back each time you shoot a hand canon, but it gives bonus damage and stager. without perks like these the gunplay starts to all feel the same, and all the guns become is just a slightly worse version of the same thing you play with every day thus leaving no reason to use a normal legendary outside of a god roll. I say all of this because I can't remember the last time I saw a legendary drop and got excited to see what's inside, because I know I have likely already played something similar even if I haven't touched that specific weapon before. so if legendary weapons were more interesting infusion would not be as essential because you would atleast be more willing to tolerate using something difrent. not to say cores shouldn't be removed because they should. it is just that if we do get cores out of infusion then all I will be using is a very specific set of weapons which can get quite boring, however when I try new weapons I often feel way underpowered and useless because the gun on its own is often not good enough without a good god roll.
