My Two Cents On The Breaking News

If your reaction to Bungie’s split from Activision is overly negative and pessimistic, you’re trolling. Straight up. Yes, Bungie made some damaging mistakes. Abusing and misusing the community’s trust. A lot of players have been burned and are a bit skeptical. Rightly so. But being under the thumb of Activision, there’s been little to no room for creative freedom. Having to stick to strict schedules, meet contractual deadlines, and keep both their publisher and the community happy. This could be good for Bungie. Their fate is in their own hands now. Whatever happens to them will be solely because of them. As Luke Smith said, “Guardians make their own fate.” The catch phrase is, “cautiously optimistic” not “cautiously pessimistic”. Any developer brave enough to cut ties with “big business”, venture out on their own, and become an independent studio, deserves support. And we should give it to them. I care about this game. I want it to be better. And if separating from Activision will potentially elevate Destiny to greater heights, then I’ll show my support. Everyone is in “wait and see” mode. We don’t know what’s going to happen. It could go either way. But premature condemnation is asinine. Definitely don’t preorder anything, or count your chickens before they hatch. There’s still much to be proven. But don’t be the guy that’s quick to tell someone that they can’t do something, or that they won’t succeed.
