As for your quest with your friend, have you tried logging out and back in? What about going to Hawthorne as a fireteam? If you or your friend linked up or purchased Destiny 2: Forsaken longer than 7 days ago, one of you aren't considered a new player anymore and can't play the quest with each other. If you are still within the 7-day timeframe, you or your friend might need to send the link again, or create a new link. Finally, if you or your friend are gamesharing Destiny 2 content, you both won't be able to complete this quest until both accounts own Destiny 2: Forsaken.
