You are now part of the Reaper’s Game.

Spoiler Warning: This post will contain minor spoilers to The World Ends With You. Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from.. Shibuya? But.. Yayaka and I completed the Game, why am I back here..? *Hiiiiiiiiii~ “Welcome to Expert Mode. Get out of Shibuya. You have 24 hours. Fail and face erasure. -The Reapers” But.. I don’t have a partner! Cocoa: “Omg, like, literally, calm down. I’ll, like, totez be your partner, lol! Team Aifos ftw!” (What kind of hell is this..?) One day, you’re walking down the street, when you see a man being chased by the cops. He grabs you, and takes you hostage. The situation takes a turn from bad to worse, and you end up dying. Fun. Yet, to your surprise, you wake up in [current residential area] where you learn you’re participating in some sort of twisted “Reaper’s Game”, for a second chance at life, and you’re told you need to find a partner. Lucky for you, is playing, too, and you buddy up! The Rules; You have to complete 7 challenges, one a day, most if not all of which, will involve fighting monstrous creatures called Noise. They are all timed, and oft involve solving riddles. You get 1 of the following;
A Pyrokinesis pin, letting you create flames upon the ground. A Thunderbolt pin, allowing you to strike baddies with lightning. A Shockwave pin, letting you wield an ethereal sword. An Energy Rounds pin, letting you shoot small energy projectiles. Or a Telekinesis Pin, giving you limited telekinesis.
And you get a partner, one video game character of your choice. However, there are two limitations;
1. In order to participate in The Game, they had to sacrifice whatever’s most precious to them. If what they value most is the source of their strength, then they’ll not have it, so keep that in mind. 2. The final challenge will be fighting the Game Master, who will be able to beat your partner in a 1v1, so if you choose someone so strong your help wouldn’t change much, you lose. Of course, you’ll probably lose if you choose someone too weak, too.
And, finally, if either you ir your partner dies, the other follows, no exceptions. So, general populace of the gaming subforum, who’re you going to fighting alongside, and what power would you choose? My answer;
At first, I was thinking to try and aim for the upper end of the power spectrum, that’s still within a power range I could assist. But then I thought, I am not trained for combat. It’d be much more practical to choose someone with support, and/or healing abilities, but one that could also still fight. As I thought about good healers, I had an epiphany! Steven Universe! Why, you might be asking? Well, firstly, Steven’s powers are all very defensive, evasive, and/or healing based, and with both defense & healing powers, survivability goes up. However, even more importantly, Steven has the ability to fuse; enhancing the powers of both fusees, while uniting them within one body. This is important, because unlike me, Steven has combat experience, and a fusion has skills of both fusees, so my lack thereof wouldn’t drag us down too much if we were fused into a single being. That, combined with healing, I think gives us a pretty good chance of survival. And of course, the power I’d go with is Shockwave, because Steven is trained with a sword.
But that’s all for now, folks! Jambuhbye! Edit; I change my answer;
As I thought about it, there’s a lot of risks with fusion.. Do pins even work fused? Does that count as one of us dying? Who knows. So, new answer! I’ll take Emily Kaldwin for my partner, from Dishonored 2. Emily’s a skilled sword fighter. Not amazing, but pretty great. If we assume that every story path is a possibilty in canon, she’s also clever enough to solve the Jindosh lock, so that’ll help with any riddles we might get. Additionally, when she lost Corvo to Delilah, rather than mope about it, she toppled the entire coup, thus, losing whatever she loses as her entry fee would likely motivate rather than break her. But, here’s the kicker, her powers! Via Far Reach (a super strength stretchy hand), she could manipulate the Noises’ positions into more advantagous layouts, with Mesmerize, she could distract our foes, Domino could let us link them all together, and Shadow Walk could let us get some cheap shots in. Plus, being all sneaksy, she’s very observant, and when I end up almost getting eaten by a shark, she’ll be able to pull me to safety with Far Reach. As for my pin? Pyrokinesis. It’s not the strongest one, but if there’s one thing it’s great at, it’s hitting multiple Noise at once. While also utilizing Emily’s crowd control to accentuate this effect, we would be able to effectively take out large groups of Noise fairly easily. Sadly, this setup is vulnerable to singular powerful Noise, but I think we’d still be good.
Spoiler warning; the conversation with King Crimson contains heavy spoilers for TWEWY.
