HOT TAKE: Randoms Rolls Make Loot Less Diverse

That’s right, less. In their current implementation, random rolls have lead to a complete stagnation in loot-pool diversity. Until Bungie goes back and adds random rolls to year 1 weapons, we’re going to basically have to wait an entire expansion or two before the loot pool returns to what it was before Forsaken dropped(and this is just for weapons, mind you. Armor is a complete and utter disaster). Now, instead of unpacking a Pribinia-D and knowing it was dismantle fodder, I might actually finally get the Duke-44 I’ve been grinding for, only for it to have bad rolls and become dismantle fodder. With no source of obtaining a specific piece of legendary loot (especially since they decided to remove the ability to purchase weapons from certain vendors for some reason), this is an artificially inflated grind on top of another grind, first to find the weapon at all, and second to get one with good rolls. As a result, players are stuck using sub-optimal weapons that they like, or optimal weapons they don’t. I’ve always said that I didn’t think this game needed to be more like D1, it just needed to be better. If, instead of random rolls, they’d just given most guns a second perk, or made more, newer perks (Genesis is great! More like that!) that could compete with Outlaw and Rampage, they could continue to make new and interesting guns all season, instead of the twelve or so guns that seem to drop from Forsaken.
