Hey everyone. I'm here just to relieve some anger of mine by talking to you guys. I live in a country named Iran, which about 40 years ago was one of the best countries you could live in.
After a stupid revolution, through recent decades on top of so many other issues, our money has become less and less valuable but it wasn't that bad at first. For example in our good years 1 USD was about 10000 IR Rials. 10000 Rials might have lots of zeros but it exactly has a value and feel of a dollar so this state of the currency was the best one. When I bought a PS4 in 2014, 1 USD was about 28000 IR Rials. I Couldn't buy games except for some digital sales so I used to rent out physical copies for about 3 dollars a week. This was when I wasn't into playing online multiplayer games.
When I got into Destiny it was around the time of Crimson Days in Destiny 1 and it changed everything about my gaming life. I became addicted and no longer could I just rent a copy for a week or two. Fortunately I had a friend in the US who had the game and game shared it with me on the ps4. So far so good.
When Destiny 2 was coming out I wanted to pre-order it myself. By this time 1 USD was about 35000 IR Rials. An average monthly salary here is about 15000000 Rials so I put aside some money and bought the game. I bought the deluxe for 100$ but for me in ratio to my money it was like spending 350$. Still wasn't complaining cause I could afford it. But through out the last year our country has gone into the most -blam!-ed up state possible. Our salaries are the same but 1 USD went up to 100000 IR Rials. Although when you search the internet there's no proof of this cause the government is denying it and not releasing any official rates, just claiming 1 USD is about 42000 IR Rials in some vague statements to save the face. But when you go to banks here and ask for that rate it doesn't even exist.
Now if you google the least valuable currency in the world, Iran comes first. Such an honor to have just because of our stupid and -blam!-ed up government. Not to mention other issues like not having power for 5 hours a day, arresting a 15year old girl for uploading her dancing videos on instagram, government-verified credit institues stealing peoples' money and so on.
But for me I don't have any other hobbies than playing Destiny with my friends. At first I just wanted to leave gaming behind but then decided cause I'm exclusively playing Destiny it worths the trouble. Cause when I play Destiny, when I raid, when I absentmindedly farm for faction tokens, when I try to get a 9man team for EP, it makes me forget about all my problems even just for a short amount of time. Not to mention all the good memories and all the good friends I've made through these years since D1. So I had to pay 8000000 Rials for pre-ordering Forsaken which is like spending 800$.
In conclusion I gotta say there's no specific point to this post if you were looking for one. I was just so angry that I wanted to talk. I know there are way more serious problems like world hunger and I'm not blind to those. Just want you to know that games might seem expensive to you but you won't believe what some people go through just to play their favorite game in other places in the world. Maybe this makes you feel less shitty the next time you're paying for a dlc or something. Sorry for all the rambling. Have a great day.
Edit:
First of all I want to thank everyone who made me feel better with their kind words. You would not believe how much of a difference a positive response can make. And also thank you to all people who offered to buy me the game but as I mentioned I've already bought it and I'm not here to make people feel bad for me and hand me money, your concerns are more than enough of a contribute to my cause.
Secondly I really wanna appologize for all the hateful conversations that my post has triggered. I would've never posted this if I knew it would spread so much hate and arguments in the forum.
And some people called my post a bait. It felt really bad. I'm appologizing again if my post came across as baiting but this was never my intention. You have every right to believe what you want to believe but we don't need to turn everything we see into a conspiracy.
I'm just a 27 year old guy supporting his mother and brother since I was 19. People say why don't you leave the country? It's not that easy but we're trying, currently I'm studying to get my masters and we're waiting on some other stuff to get sorted out.
And then some other people say why do you play games when you live in a shitty country? Stand up and fight. Trust me we're fighting for our rights but killing Calus and Argos time to time is what keeps me sane. Maybe one day I could never play Destiny or any other games any more so I'm gonna enjoy what I have right now. Cheers to everyone. Thanks for keeping an open mind.

Can’t someone in the states buy it for you and send it to you?

1 ответИзменено (blade329): 7/25/2018 2:44:01 PMThank you for this post. It's great reminder to me (in USA) that our problem with Iran is with its government, not its people. I have a lot of empathy for people who are abused and subjugated by their government. Best of luck to you.
...it makes me forget about all my problems even just for a short amount of time
I feel you. I'm betting that's the case for most people. Video games are an escape for many of us.
So I had to pay 8000000 Rials for pre-ordering Forsaken which is like spending 800$.
Whoa!!! That's a chunk of change, for sure. While Destiny 1 would be worth the money, I don't know about D2. It's just nowhere near as good.

4 отв.First off, I’d like to acknowledge your excellent grammar and knowledge of the English language. I’ve worked side by side with people from all over the world and always respect someone who can learn different languages. It’s unfortunate to hear how bad every day life is over there. I truly wish the U.S. had done more to support the protests during our last administration. I can assure you that we, the people of the U.S., empathize with your struggle and hope that Iran can return to the great country it once was. In the meantime, don’t let the trolls here get to you. You have a legitimate reason to rant. Good luck to you and stay safe.

10 отв.I am very surprised that the don't have different prices based on location. I know in Steam that's a thing. you can buy a game in Russia, or Ukraine for example, cheaper than what you would pay in Spain for example. Also, games in US tend to be cheaper than Europe (Countries using the Euro), and in some cases UK. So it really strikes me that they don't have a system like this in Iran, to allow people to buy games in a fair exchange. I hope this post gets some attention, and maybe apply some policy in that regard, as I don't fee it's fair. Anyway, I reall like the way you write and how politely you reacted, even considering all the haters in this forum. Have a good one, Guardian.

3 отв.Изменено (Stryder): 7/26/2018 9:35:01 PMBest of luck to you. I wish the world wasn't blind to other countries and their struggles. I thank you for the enlightening topic even if it was just to vent. Too bad politics always divide countries from each other. Again best of luck and maybe one day you'll find yourself making a better life for your family. Keep fighting Guardian, you're not alone.

1 ответWe live in a shitty world. I truly am sorry. You're a true guardian, keep fighting.

Nice post.

2 отв.Hey guardian fellow Iranian here, how is the network connection for gaming over there? I know they throttle the internet, is it still playable?

2 отв.As an Iranian who lives in America I feel for u. The Ayatollah and Rouhani have screwed over their people. I also know it is hard to leave the country especially from the stories my parents have told me when they left during the revolution.

Sorry about this becoming a political crapfest. Here is a summary of the alt-right bitcoins on this post: "We shall not let religious dogma overtake us! ISLAM SUCKS! LONG LIVE OUR LORD AND SAVIOR!" Note the hypocrisy there. Don't pay attention to the conservatives on this post, except to message Cozmo to ban them.

1 ответWe hear you guardian. Due to your issues, we at Bungie have agreed to charge EVERYONE £800 for the Forsaken DLC. GG

Wow. Just, wow. I learned something significant on the forums.

3 отв.We should all get together and donate few dollars so this guy can buy it. not from over there but digitally from another region

1 ответI hope things get better for not only you but for the other people in Iran.

1 ответ"Hey everyone. I'm here just to relieve some anger of mine by talking to you guys" That's some grade-A honesty right there. I tip my hat to you. I'm here because I'm pissed and I like to take my trash out on complete strangers on the internet.

1 ответMy thoughts are with you, guardian. I work with a lot of people that have come here to the US from countries like yours for a better life. My teammate (at work) included. I work here in the US to try to make sure that everyone around the world has that opportunity. And that they can be safe and happy at home while they do so. I truly believe a lot of what we've done is part in parcel for what your currency value woes are - not just your government's.... and the past year and a half has hurt it exponentially. And your people and family are OFTEN in my thoughts. Eff the haters, and know that you are doing what is right for you and your family, and that there are MANY of us out here that love you. And we have your back.
-
1 ответSorry to hear this. I hope that the situation in your country and the entire region improves. QUESTION: Aside from the obvious issue with currency exchange wouldn't the game be difficult to play from a bandwidth / lag perspective? Also, aren't there restrictions in your country from accessing certain content? How are you connecting to the servers, this site, etc.????
