This is more of a general question to the community that I’m curious about. The bread and butter of D2’s combat is the gunplay and I understand how much of a core it is, but does it have to be? My question being would you want more class identity integrated in to the combat?
Examples:
A build for Sentinel that was less about shooting and more about shields and protecting allies. Or a Striker that only melee’d with their fists.
A melee focused arc strider build focusing on the staff. Where you could still shoot as you got close then used the staff once you closed the distance or when getting close isn’t safe. Or a Stalker specializing in debuffing and using the new bow weapon.
A mid range Dawnblade focusing on the sword and fire blasts from the air while reserving the gun for longer ranges as well. Or a storm caller that flings lightning from long ranges.
The abilities and supers are awesome, but I feel as though the entire aspect of class identity could be better defined and made more unique.

Hunters: kick while sliding. Warlocks: blind enemies with a high five. Titans: throw rocks, and enemies, and each other.

13 отв.If they removed PvP the game would be able to be more in depth. Too bad PvP ruins loot based games 99% of the time.
-
2 отв.I am all for classes and subclasses having more of an identity within gameplay. But I think entirely removing the idea of using guns as a base is a bad idea. It changes the game too dramatically. I am sure there is a middle ground here that could make for some interesting combinations however. So you get my vote.

Personally I'd like Bungie to bring Destiny 2's gunplay up to the standard Destiny set, but considering that D2 also managed to homogenize (most) supers into all being offensive it would be cool to see classes actually affect gameplay once again.
-
Or, ya know, if Bungie would learn from a page out of the books of Diablo. Class specific armor/weapon sets that give a uniqueness to a specific class by introducing proper build mechanics and allowing for players to centralize around specific playstyles. Not boxing us into two specific trees per subclass, giving us armor that effectively does nothing in relation to an ACTUAL build, and limiting the uniqueness of the proposed abilities of the classes supers by boxing them into set parameters that are contradictory to the games lore/past guardians abilities. But. What do i know lol.

I wanna see a melee on the dawnblade subclass throw a sword or swing it for damage

2 отв.I'd like to see animations that reflected what you were using, Like the Monte Carlo, Red Death for D1, using a melee with those guns should bayonet people, Or any time a Titan has spikes on their armor, a spike on the knee you knee charge people in the chest, spike on the helmet, headbutt...I'd also like the knives on the Hunter (melee and throwing knife) to change based on which knife was depicted (D1 examples again, the Bastet knife for trials, or the bone knife from the Orxy/Crota raid) I'd also like to see more unique swords, animations, and styles, (Katana = runs like a samurai or ninja) Maybe a Rapier with a fencing form, a broadsword and moves like a knight, basically swords inspired by locations and the fighting movements to match. Some class based emotes would be nice, Hunters have a handcannon spin, knife flipping or spinning, maybe multiple sitting positions (like Cayde laying around random places), Warlocks could have some sort of hovering meditation, or have an open book in one hand while opening some blackhole vortex with the other, I thought the Titans could have a Saint-14 emote where a captain picks them up and they headbutt it and it turns to dust or fades away...you know, something unique to each class, i find the problem with destiny classes it they feel too much a like, it's easy to switch character and sometimes forget what the hell you are.

Oh the thread got moved to the feedback by a moderator. I wonder if that means something? Of course I don’t think the devs will change much but I think adding the new supers is a good touch. Now they just need to do more with it.

2 отв.This is another example how PVP just ruins this game. You can't have anything good without the snowflakes crying about Crucible balance.
-
The game does need more depth and combat options but bringing back the d1 skill trees as some suggest isn’t the way to do it. They can just as easily build off the current system to give players more depth and combat options without going back to the old system and I think that’s the best option for for both the players and developers.

38 отв.D2 is trash ... Unless they fix the core game (never going to happen)... Everything you said doesn't matter
-
2 отв.Just bring back the depth of choice we had in class setup from d1. I mean its one of the reasons this game is so shallow, i expected them to expand upon our subclass perk choice, not get rid of any choice at all. You wanna be A or B today?? Well actually i'd like to pick from both.
-
Yes, but that would require depth and I don’t think bungie are capable of depth anymore.
-
I would love this, crazy builds like Diablo 3 or Borderlands 2. But sadly that would never happen because they wont change their minds about the ridiculous ideia of having a balanced pvp in a loot based game.
-
1 ответSo the class trees from D1, basically.
-
I can't think for myself and I need to know which tree is better for pvp and which is better for pve. Besides who's ever even heard of being able to fully customize your subclasses in destiny that's just stupid.
-
6 отв.The only thing that is keeping this franchise floating is the gunplay. The game you want exists, it’s called warframe.
-
Yeah I would be for it, but with balance. Keep the gun play, but allow classes to have more specific moves. I was using the wormhusk skull when I thought of this. What if, instead of nerfing stuff (as they may do with the skull), make other stuff just as good. What if titans had much more armor than everyone else, but it was balanced by low recovery and speed. Hunters would be given low armor, but incredible speed and recovery with automatic health recovery on dodge. Warlocks could get rifts more often and life drain much easier on other characters (basically relying on abilities for armor and regeneration instead of stats). This would bring diversity and make each player hard to kill without having to make the ttk incredibly low, and more importantly they wouldn’t have to nerf guns near as much.

1 ответThe D1 system was fine as you weren't limited to two static skill trees. I wouldn't want this game to be an Overwatch because it's the great gunplay that keeps people playing.
-
1 ответI'm all for more defined roles. However I want those roles to be our choice. The current subclass system is limiting and feels insulting to the intelligence of the player. Yes, only certain perks were used in D1. The solution to that is to make the under-utilizied perks more powerful and appealing to players. Instead our options became limited to simplistic and underwhelming clusters.

Lots of great replies to this topic! It’s nice to see I’m not the only person interested in seeing more class specific stuff! But I want to address a few concerns: 1. “Destiny is about shooting!” True that is the main focus and it can still be the main focus for some classes. What I’m asking for is more options in combat to spice up the gameplay. 2. “Exotics!” Gear shouldn’t define your subclass, it should augment it to customize your playstyle. 3. “Destiny isn’t a true RPG!” No it’s not. Most of the rpg elements are focused on gear and that’s not a bad thing. Playing around with weapons and finding what you like IS fun and enjoyable. But why does that have to be the only way for character advancement? I assert it doesn’t need to be. 4. “Pvp!” Just add some restrictions to pvp, set it so you can only use the current trees/weapon loadouts in crucible and let us have the crazy stuff for pve and some sort of free for all pvp mode with no rules. Conclusion: If you want to be able to just keep sitting back and shooting that’s fine. But don’t shoot down an idea because some of us may want something different.
-
No. Not for this game...
-
Yes. Quickfang type weapons for each class.

2 отв.I hope Bungie's next IP will be something like this. The idea of playing a Dawn Blade who can fire off a few solar blasts from their sword as a general ability rather than a super sounds awesome to me. The main question is... Are supers fun to use because we don't get them often? Would they become boring and mundane if they were all we used? Obviously I expect this change to do more than just give us our super all the time, I just wonder if it would be fun and satisfying for as long as simple gun-play is.
