Let’s talk about lore! (any game)

Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from the All Inclusive Fictional Organization, Savvy?’s lore library! If you can’t tell by its title, it’s a library full of lore books! Anyway, this post has a few purposes; 1. I’m gonna talk some lore (theories) 2. You can talk some lore (theories) Please remember to use spoiler tags (place the word “spoiler” in [ ] brackets before the spoiler, and put “/spoiler” in [ ] beackets after it) if you are going to spoil anything! Thanks! So, the theory I want to talk about, is the continuity of Kirby’s timeline. To those of you who played Star Allies, you might remember Hyness’ speech where text scrolled by too fast to read. That was actually a huge lore dump that filled in a big hole we had in the early history of Gamble Galaxy. And I, lore master Aifos.. Am not here to talk about that. No, I want to talk about Kirby: Triple Deluxe! As you may remember, in Kirby: 3D’s introduction, Kirby wakes up in the morning, after a good night’s rest in his house. This is one of the only two times Kirby’s house has appeared, the other being the end of Kirby Super Star, where Kirby falls asleep for the night. Now, by itself, that’s not a very strong connection, but, the writer of Triple Deluxe specifically says he wrote it that way so 3D could pick up where Milky Way Wishes left off. Now, my understanding of the Kirby timeline was the “linear” chronology, where the games took place in the same order they released, but this statement implies Triple Deluxe would be the 4th game chronologically (Dreamland>Adventure>Super Star>3D). What does that mean, exactly? Well..
The biggest result here is that it takes place before Amazing Mirror. Given we know Sectonia was possessed by the Mirror, Dark Mind’s attack of Popstar could’ve been because of his puppet queen of Floralia being dethroned..
Nothing too mind-blowing. However, there’s one other major implication here. If 3D doesn’t take place by release order, it’s possible that a few of the other games don’t, either. So, then, let’s jump back to Star Allies. What if the newest Kirby game is actually the oldest? Now, it’s easy to make a baseless claim, but surely I must be coming from somewhere? Well, the first world of Star Allies has a pretty familiar plot; King Dedede has stolen all the food in Dreamland, and Kirby goes to get it all back, exactly what happens in Kirby’s Dreamland. Now, yes, that’s not the strongest link, but it actually solves a lot of questions. Such as why Pon & Con are on the Jambastion; they came from there, to Popstar, for their appearance in Dreamland 2, which makes more sense than the other way around. But, now we’re getting into spoiler territory, and this is the interesting part.
So, in the “linear continuity” timeline, Void Termina released Dark Matter during the Jamban Genocide, which wiped out the Halcandrans. Once they were gone, Popstar eventually came under attack, and later Ripple Star followed suit. But, in the “chopped continuity” Void Termina was destroyed before Kirby ever encountered Dark Matter, meaning 0, Gooey, and their kin were born from Void Termina’s destruction. This means the Halcandrans were wiped out, and the Master Crown created, fairly recently, possibly making Magalor one of, if not, the last Halcandran, as opposed to his “linear” origins being more likely something of a scavenger, or just really old. This would also place the guilt of Halcandra, and Ripple Star’s invasions on Kirby’s hands, with no small part from Hyness.
Anyway, there are problems here. For one, if World 1 is supposed to represent Kirby’s Dreamland, we’re missing a few bosses, and King Dedede’s transformation, of course, never happened. More important than both of those, though, is if King Dedede was possessed in the first game, he’d have no reason to want revenge, rendering Revenge of the King non-canon, and while it can be argued it might not be canon anyway, I think it is, as it’s B. Waddle Dee’s debut. In addition to RotK needing retconning, the Dream Friend DLC containing Gooey would need to be non-canon as well, because, well, Gooey would exist before the events of Star Allies, which wouldn’t make sense. All in all, I actually believe in the “linear continuity” of Kirby (including Triple Deluxe taking place after Squeak Squad), but much like the shared timeline of Soulsborne, this is one of those theories that’s more interesting just to think about rather than actually believe in. Anyway, that’s all for now, folks! Jambuhbye!
