<inb4 folklore (EDIT: called it)
Anyway, long ago I made a couple post on two of the most mysterious things in Destiny, the Traveler and the Darkness. Today, I'm going to go over the third... the Nine. What the -blam!- are they? What do they want? Why?
Here's what we KNOW.
The Nine are elusive beings that have an unknown number of Agents and possibly Emissaries. They hide in the shadows and rarely make their presence known. They seem to be welcomed, as both the Reef and the Vanguard allow Xur to sell shit to Guardians. However, nobody in the universe really knows that much about them, either.
Ironically, the Nine don't want anything on their turf unless they allow it. Uldren's Crows went to Rhea, a Jovian moon, and the Nine didn't like that at all. They were never asked of Skolas, they just received him as a peace offering from the Queen. Because they didn't want Skolas, they sent him back (cue HoW). They watch over what we do... carefully and mostly silently. We don't know the extent of their power, but perhaps these theories can provide insight. Prepare yourselves for a long post as a confused Vex Mind tries to understand beings higher than himself.
Ghost Fragment: Legends 2 Theories -
The Nine are survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies who made a compact with an alien force to ensure their own survival.
"The Jovians"... Xur's kind. But what alien force? The Ahamkara? The 5th Race? The Darkness? Considering that Light hurts Xur (according to him) and he doesn't really look that far off from what a "being of Darkness" might look like, I think I'll go with Darkness. Though Ahamkara is a likely possibility. If this is true, then clearly the Nine are more powerful Jovians because Xur confirms that there are more than 9.
The Nine are deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms.
I like this one in particular because there's something that can definitely back this up. Check "A Sudden Death", it's one of the Trials weapons.
You spoke with the deep-orbit minds.
we heard what you asked
BUT THEY HAD QUESTIONS TOO
The lying robot no longer lies with others. Where is he?
That isn't cryptic AT ALL...
I believe this refers to Rasputin. As we know, Rasputin hid himself during the Collapse while every other Warmind fought the Darkness. Does this mean that the other Warminds are alive? Do they not have contact with Rasputin despite recent events? Were they changed? What happened during the Collapse?
The Nine are ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan.
I don't really like this one. It also seems off considering what we saw on Titan.
The Nine arrived in a mysterious transmission from the direction of the Corona-Borealis supercluster.
Yes. The Emissary practically confirms this. She says to listen in the direction of supercluster when you go Flawless. Something's out there in the galaxy... or out of the galaxy... hey what's that large invading alien force again?
The Nine are the firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube.
While I would like to believe the first part, we haven't seen anything on Io.
The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.

[Eight sparks. A ninth, dim in the corner. And Orin in the middle.]
ORIN: Are we all here? Come into the light, please.
G-9: I like where I am.
ORIN: They said you all went to the deep without a ship. How?
G-7: Our charges are gone, but we're still creatures of Light. No different from the one you carry in your pocket.
ORIN: You're all either very brave or very foolish.
G-6: You sound like Shaxx.
G-5: She does. I'm glad my charge is gone.
G-4: Don't say that.
G-5: It's true.
G-4: Don't say it out loud. Some of us go our whole lives without finding one. Show some respect.
G-5: Don't talk like you're better than me. You're in here, too.
ORIN: Please. I'm sorry to call you all here, but—
G-2: You're not sorry.
ORIN: I need to know what you found out there.
G-9: Nothing.
ORIN: At least give me the coordinates.
I don't have to say a damn thing, they confirm each other.
The Nine is a viral language of pure meaning.

“To do what you say, is to speak in a language of pure meaning.”
-Xur
Xur in Destiny 2 says a lot of cryptic shit, but that's for another post.
The Nine are the aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within.
Well... isn't this interesting. Doesn't help when Xur says the Nine will come to us or that the Queen thought that the Nine were scheming against her. Or that the Nine think the removal of Light from a Guardian (Orin) is a gift.
The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.
I... I don't know. I really don't. They seem to be powerful and well hidden, not to mention we get to Eternity through a Wormhole, but what?
I think those last three are the only ones describing the Nine themselves. I think those Ghosts aren't really the Nine. Those Warminds aren't the Nine. The Jovians aren't the Nine. They are all agents or followers.
Why are they giving us shit? Are they just setting us up? Are they giving us a fighting chance?
There's a lot of people working against us. When the Darkness arrives, will the Nine open the gates?
What do you think?>

This is all speculation and food for thought but maybe the key to discovering the nine's identity is through what they do. From what we have seen in destiny all tgey do is hand out exotics, but exotics are extremely unique weapons. Invective as ikora rey's shotgun, Sunshot as liu feng's hand cannon, and Merciless, a unique piece of golden age tech to name a few. So why am i going into the cabal emporer's ship or crota's lair and fonding these weapons? Or why are hundreds of guardians wielding these one of a kind beasts? This could be ezplaimed as "video game logic" but i think its plausable to say that the nine are beings with tech that can remake exaxt copies of objects. Also l, they might be parasitic beings of the darkness which would explain smuggling said exotics into raid lairs and such by taking over the bodies of entities which woyld explain xur's quote "my will is not my own." As for more than that i have no clue.

I don't think the nine should be associated as nine singular entities. What I'm trying to say is the descriptors that are used are nine, not each of them are singular entities. The nine, to me, is like FWC, NM, DO, in that it is a collective group. The nine is just a name, and set of descriptors as to the nature of themselves. Again if we met them...it would be a group, not just nine singular entities.

You sure took your time to explain what you din't understand ;) Sadly, I belive that the 9 (as with other cryptic parts of the story) was left hanging and has probably been pieced together by new writers, much in the same way that the players did. We take what little info we have and try to make reason of it, but it might be that too much info is missing, because the ones picturing the lore and its part of the whole story, is also missing ;) One thing is sure though. They are not "welcomed" in the tower. Xur isn't really allowed to be there, Vanguard is just creeped out by him and found it best to ignore him, as he leaves on his own and just hangs around without making a scene of it. I wonder what really happened to Xur... He says that some of the cells in his body originated from earth. What about the rest of his cells, then?

Nope all folklore. Anything that isn't made up by the feminist comic book artist is nothing more than fake stories. All those great stories we pieced together from the Book of Sorrows, and all of the stories woven into the grimoire (still hated it wasn't in the game but it was something) is nothing but a campfire tale. What a joke.

“The Nine” are the nine people that are left playing Destiny 2ish

Изменено (jafer_33): 3/9/2018 10:04:35 PMWell, we haven't been to Europa yet to say that the statement is very unlikely. I mean think about the possibilities of the lifeforms that could exist beneath the ice sheets of Europa.

Изменено (TeWrecks): 3/8/2018 1:02:34 PMMaybe each paragraph is describing a member of the nine? They don't have to be 1 species, right? The 1st member of the nine (a survivor who made a pact with aliens to survive):-
The Nine are survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies who made a compact with an alien force to ensure their own survival.
The 2nd member of the nine ( a warmind is a member of the nine. Which? idk):-
The Nine are deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms.
The 3rd member of the nine (like the one the hive encountered on the way down to the worm gods):-
The Nine are ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan.
The came from & could be found here (probably):-
The Nine arrived in a mysterious transmission from the direction of the Corona-Borealis supercluster.
The 4th member of the nine (One of the awoken is a member of the nine):-
The Nine are the firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube.
The 5th member of the nine (One of them is a ghost):-
The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.
The 6th member of the nine (no clue):-
The Nine is a viral language of pure meaning.
The 7th member of the nine (no clue):-
The Nine are the aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within.
The 8th member of the nine (Related to Calus? Or his shadows, maybe?):-
The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.
The 9th???

The 9 is a brutally beautiful circuit of mountains in the Catskills, New York: Slide, Cornell, Wittenberg, Balsam Cap, Rocky, Lone, Table, Peekamoose. At least that's what "The 9" means to me...
-
Uh oh, why is the Mind in cinders now?
-
There after the 8 and befor the 10
-
Aaaaaand it’s retconned
-
Folklore It's not cannon... meaning D3 it'll turn from this mysterious all powerful group to a bunch of fanboy npcs with Cayde 6 humor to appeal to Luke Smith's 4 year old niece.
-
Do people think screaming folklore is some golden joke?
-
They are the amount of lives Bungie has used up in their gaming catfishing
-
If you read all of the trials gear they are the 9 guardian-less ghosts. All of the trials gear put together is some pretty far out shit.
