D2 feels like a straight to DVD release, but it can be fixed going forward (actual feedback)

This isn't me trying to poke fun at the game, this is legitimately how I feel. Going from the refined and well rounded end of D1 to D2 feels like a straight to DVD release. A straight to DVD release being something that didn't need to happen, of substantially lower quality, or missing the thing that made the original great. D2 feels like it lost it's soul along the way, and I know Bungie is working to right some of the many wrongs based on community feedback. Here's some feedback that I think will bring D2 and the future of Destiny to where it should be and things that need to happen moving forward. Bring it back to D1 Standards I think this goes without saying for many people in the community. D1 was in a very VERY good spot by AoT. The world felt big, there were plenty of places to go and plenty of things to do to keep players engaged. This should have been built upon, not scrapped. D2 first and foremost needs to be brought up to the standard that players grew to expect from D1. The power fantasy, the fun exotics, the wealth of customization. Simply, if it aint broke, don't fix it... Don't reset our progress or make gear obsolete again This was one of the biggest issues I had with D2. The launch of D2 was the second time all players had to start from scratch with their characters. We can't become legend when you keep taking everything we've worked so hard to get. This becomes even more frustrating when exotics we had already earned were brought back into the new game that's supposed to be a "fresh start". Again, playing off the first point, D2 should have built off of D1 in this sense. If you're going to make a D3, make it an actual sequel Sequels have expectations, that expectation is/was that you're going to build on the things that worked in the previous game, not burn it all and start from scratch. If you're not going to build off of D1 with D2, then D3 should build off of D2. Bring forward what works and what the players liked and leave behind the bad and make meaningful additions. In a sequel, we expect more character creation customization options, new races to choose from, new detailed and customize-able subclasses (in addition to what we already have), new enemy races etc. D2 felt like starting D1 vanilla, where all the hard work and time it took to get where players were happy back to waiting for the game to get good again. However, consider making the above larger full priced expansions instead of a sequel, it fits Destiny better. Make Destiny HUGE like WoW The thing people like about a lot of MMO's and this style of RPG is that the world/universe continues to expand. You could come in day 1 or year 5 and be able to visit the same areas. In D2, right now, I should be able to visit the cosmodrome, venus, mars, the moon, the dreadnaught, the plaguelands, the reef, all of the raids, strikes etc... It doesn't matter that there might not be things relevant to the current plot/story of the game.. These places were/still are part of the destiny universe and should always be a part of it. Destiny needs this kind of continuity while the game continues to expand. Don't worry about balance so much Balance is an important part of any game, but it should never be priority over fun and creativity. It's quite clear that the PvP/PvE environments are both suffering due to attempts at balance. Static roll weapons, the new loadout system, cooldown times, lack of interesting weapons... Again, look to Destiny 1, PvE was in a fantastic place and PvP was chaotic and entertaining, they were both fun. The power fantasy that we felt in D1 has all but fizzled out in D2. I don't feel powerful or agile, I feel weak and less capable. This needs to be addressed both in weapon loadout and in power and movement. It feels like balance has taken away any chance of seeing great new iconic weapons similar to Ice Breaker, Thorn, The Last Word etc. D1 did it right, if it aint broke... Consider balancing PvP/PvE separately using mods People have different opinions on static roll weapons, some people like it, many others don't. In short, static roll weapons make drops uninteresting after a certain point, people don't need to investigate what they get as rewards and just dismantle. Masterworks were a good step, but they quickly lead to the same problem. Since they are static rolls, there are obvious dominant and popular weapons. Once people masterwork their favorite weapons, it's back to dismantling everything, masterwork or not. Consider having weapons drop with an additional random mod that contains a perk. Or add Masterwork mods. Instead of a stat boost masterwork mods have a random perk (firefly, outlaw, luck in the chamber etc.). This would give players incentive to investigate their weapons and experiment with weapons they would otherwise dismantle. It also gives players more things to chase. The additional mod slot for regular/masterwork perk mods can be locked when entering PvP to retain balance, of course the masterwork tracking/orbs should stay active. This adds much more replay value to the game and allows us to customize our weapons/playstyle more in PvE. Alternatively, you could have PvP/PvE specific perk mods that can drop from a specific pool for different guns, letting players customize their playstyle for whatever mode they play the most. It would also be an incentive for players to have more than one of the same weapon as it can have PvP and PvE perks, so you'd have one for any circumstance. Alternatively, there should be a system to swap out mods on a weapon without destroying the equipped mod. Bring back the D1 Weapon Loadout system Make all primary weapons energy weapons, move things like shotguns, fusions, snipers etc. back into the secondary slot and leave rockets and grenade launchers in the power (heavy) slot. Bring back LMG's Delay expansions and content drops to work on fixing/updating the game The systems in D2 need massive improvement, such as the weapon system mentioned above. Destiny's quality of life and systems need to be addressed, and I for one would rather see that improve before seeing new content drops. These improvements as a result will make new and old content more engaging and keep players interested for longer. Eververse needs to be a direct purchase store If eververse is going to stick around, then it needs to change drastically. Random loot boxes are not the answer, and it's bordering on gambling. Let players buy things directly instead of relying on luck. If you must have loot boxes, have them in addition to being able to direct purchase things. But have the boxes at a severly discounted price. That way they are much cheaper than buying something directly, but also still have a chance to drop that same thing. This also makes Destiny feel less like a free to play model in a game we paid full price for. Sorry for the extremely long post, but I hope this is valuable feedback, and I hope this echo's and expands upon the concerns and feedback the community has expressed. I look forward to seeing what TWAB has to say, and hopefully that addresses some of what has been brought up here.
