So, after watching videos like this one, I was thinking if it would be viable to merge Sniper Rifles with Kinetic Weapons, since this would give both pvp and pve a little more variety, as players would have more liberty of choice towards their play style.
New Layout
Slot 1: Primary (Kinetic Weapons and Sniper Rifles)
Slot 2: Secondary (Energy Weapons)
Slot 3: Heavy (Fusion Rifles, Shotguns, Grenade/Rocket Launchers and Swords)
For example, if you have solid aiming skills, or are willing to take some risk, you would be able to run a Sniper Rifle on your primary slot, having to rely on hitting constant headshots or you would run out of ammo very quickly. Requiring some more ammo efficiency/management to play that way.
While less skilled or more laid back players could opt to just keep their standard Kinetic Weapon in their slot, since that way they would have more ammo and be less prone to getting punished if they can't hit their target as well.
No expert in Destiny here (started playing not long ago), but I think this workout could please some of the more hardcore players while at the same time keeping all the casuals untouched.
As for heavy weapons: Grenade Launchers, Swords, Shotguns, Fusion Rifles and Rocket Launchers would still be there (and I'd say that's already a fair amount of weapon types for just 1 slot)... Maybe you could even re-implement some Heavy Machine Guns in further patches or DLCs, since you've already got the assets needed from Destiny 1.
Not to mention that all of this could potentially bring some more usability to Shotguns, as they're being quite underused right now, along with Swords in PVE, since Sniper Rifles can be used to cover that long range "gap" so present in the game right now.
Well, let me know what you think about it.

Just going to say this for the sniper as a kinetic idea. Too OP. Reasons for this are pretty basic. -You die you get more kinetic ammo. -Snipers can kill in one head shot. -Everything else takes far more than this. In all it'd be the nightmare i remember from destiny 1 where almost every corner you came around was met with an instant death. Personally i like aspects of this weapon system in that on strikes i can run double hand cannons or a hand canon and other use to be primary. On the other hand i do think destiny 1 had the better set up in general and they also had the whole you die and lose your special ammo in crucible that helped a little bit.
