Many of you have your heart in the right place and believe these multi million dollar companies need to add new revenue streams to survive modern game development, but the numbers just don't fit that narrative.
Let's look at some numbers shall we?
Destiny 2's publisher's (Activision) total assets are worth $17.452 billion.

Not sure what Destiny 2's developer (Bungie) is worth, but just their website is estimated to be worth 91,000,000.

The lowest paid Bungie software designer makes $80,000.

Hell Bobby Kotick (Activision's CEO) is worth $2,000,000,000 by himself. How many engrams you think he's bought?

This company doesn't need Eververse to feed themselves. It's purely greed.

There's another thing about this whole mess that bothers me. Everything (at least, they claim) from season to season in the Eververse will disappear entirely. In D1, I didn't get the full Dawning set until they brought everything back near the end and I was able to buy it with Silver Dust. If they hold to their word and make everything unattainable after a season ends, that's just another big push to get people to buy items from the Eververse. It's like a high-pressure sales environment, and let's face it, no one likes those.

where is all the donation money going or are they laundering it
This company doesn't need Eververse to feed themselves. It's purely greed.
They may not need it but it’s an avenue to make money which is why their in business. I’d bet dollars to donuts if you had expendable cash you wouldn’t have an issue with it.

I think they have enough money

Can you play the game without Eververse? Yes. You can also drive a beat up cash car in the Hollywood hills.

We need to do a MASS RECALL. Bungie does a Real Game (not a cell phone game like) Or we all ask for MONEY BACK at the same time. Maybe a lawsuit would help to clarify that it's our entertainment, but we pay real money, with real work for you, or your mommy, daddy... someone has to work to pay this game. And Microtransaction in a payed game. Now that's not ENTERTAIMENT. That's a Virtual Cassino without receiving money or good parts back. Give me back my money and sell your things.

The personal wealth of directors is irrelevant, that is not the company's money. And it has to pay all of it's employees, suppliers and other stakeholders, so cash-flow is essential to keep everything running. What amuses me is that the majority of the teen-angst revolutionaries on this forum live in the most capitalistic nation on earth (the USA)

Remove Eververse! It is ruining the gam!
-
A full price game with payed DLC's and microtransactions...S$$MS L$GIT. Then you lock the best gear and seasonal gear behind said microtransactions in a weird in game lottery!!!! WOOOHOOO! Can't believe this studio has fallen so far...(missing HALO CE and gaming in the early 2000's bad RN) Learn this: you've obviously pushed the envelope on developing your game in such a way that will incentivize microtransactions A LITTLE TOO FAR MATE

I stopped playing because i dont want to support EA,s ... i mean Bungies shitshow anymore. This game has so many issues (PVP = BS ) but the Eververse is poor cancer. These guys have no pride

It's outragous! To charge us all for such a small game, then to add a DLC so soon afterward its release is bad enough but this Dawning event has just exposed Bungie's real plans. We were told that Eververse was only introduced to "pay for the live team" well that was a very obvious lie and furthermore it is literally the only aspect of the game that has developed since the greatness of D1. I'll never give Bungie or Activision another penny of my money because that'll just encourage them to get even worst.
-
And Bungie’s apologies and excuses sound like a Boyfriend/Girlfriend that was caught cheating they are sorry and will try to be better or will look into it come on.... what happened to the good days of gaming

Is anyone else hyped for incredibles 2

T.W.A.B , About the Eververse First a happy holiday and hope you are enjoying the Dawning. We are listening to your feedback and wish to respond to your backlash on eververse, We see the mistakes we have made and have some exciting upcoming updates, Lets start with the factions, we will (actually we already have) add sparrows ghosts and shaders specific to each faction, these are now in the loot pool engrams, of course the shaders wont be as deluxe as our eververse ones, for example, the New monarchy one is called "vomitus" a paisly green snot puke color, one of our interns came up with this fantastic shader. Also we realize we have watered down the loot pool in Eververse that it seems impossible to get that favorite shader or mod, You saw from previous posts, we were looking for a new employee that could build upon eververse and the bright engram program, We need someone more insidious and transparent (re sneaky). to build on that what we have come up with is to add more of what you want to the loot pool, we have now added 56 more shaders and 35 more fantastic mods (knee pads were looking at you) we have also valued the shaders at a sliding scale now like you earn xp. starts with 50 bright dust for the first shader dismantled and is halved with each subsequent dismantle. We will also give out TWICE the Bright engrams now, although we will up the prices in eververse by 60%. This shows we are listening to you. Patch notes 1.11976.1817 Strikes will now give out a guaranteed shader or mod at completion of stike. the nightfall timer is now removed from the activity and instead of forcing you to rush, we will go with a black screen every ten seconds for ten seconds. again finishing the nightfall will reward you with at least two mods and a shader with a chance of at least 3 tokens, we want you to feel rewarded. Crucible will be adjusted as follows, you will not be able to leave a match now as once commited you will not be able to back out. we will make this more enjoyable by giving you more of what you want supremacy and countdown, these will be our focus as we would love to see these modes grow in popularity, you will learn to love them. as for the power ammo team grab, we will remove power ammo and give everyone one brick at the start of each match. Also to make it so one person can be a hero in crucible again we will attach a feature to your super so instead of activating the super, you will explode like a suicide bomber, yes you will die, but so will anyone within a ten foot radius of you sploding. Your ghost will exclaim Allhava snackbar before it detonates. Raids, rewards for the raids will be more than just tokens shaders and ghosts. our team is developing a scooty puff jr for the normal raid and a scooty puff sr for the hard raid, this way your team mates will know you finished the raid, of course by default, these will not be as fast or as flashy as the eververse ones...but still...Scooty puff mofos. So you can see. the new year will bring in loads of great content and we thing that with all the great additions to Eververse We know you will be happy. Till next year gaurdians.

Except Eververse doesn’t fund Activision/Blizzard. lol
-
I love how everyone is upvoting this event though Activision isn't Activision Blizzard. But no, keep spreading your false information.

This is just part of business. You don't have to buy anything from eververse. It's all optional. Look at gtv, they designed pvp to be a major microtransaction game. I was so tempted to spend $50 to get more money because I felt everyone else had money and I didn't. Who wants to spend all that time making money when you can just buy it. They made millions.

(He's a phantom) (Danny Phantom, Danny Phantom, Danny Phantom) Young Danny Fenton, he was just 14,[1] When his parents built a very strange machine. It was designed to view, a world unseen. (He's gonna catch em all 'cause he's Danny Phantom.) When it didn't quite work, his folks, they just quit, But then Danny took a look inside of it, There was a great big flash, everything just changed, His molecules got all rearranged! (Phantom, Phantom) When he first woke up, he realized, He had snow white hair, and glowin' green eyes. He could walk through walls, disappear, and fly, He was much more unique than the other guys. And it was then that he knew what he had to do, He had to stop all the ghosts that were comin' through, He's here to fight, for me and you! He's gonna catch 'em all, 'cause he's Danny Phantom, Gonna catch 'em all, 'cause he's Danny Phantom, Gonna catch 'em all, 'cause he's (Danny Phantom.)
