Issue Information
Destination/Activity: Near the completion of a Public event (Typically Heroic) while fighting game crashed 3x, after public event completion while getting loot game crashed 1x, and when walking around open world regions game crashed 8x.
TL;DR - UPDATE BELOW for curent list of troubleshooting attempts.
Description: Originally thought the issue was related to large amounts screen particles causing a GPU crash but currently using GeForce recommended settings for D2 and my 1060 is brand new no issues on the hardware or within settings when looking at my CPU/GPU temperatures and memory. The only other application I am running is Discord with the overlay turned off.
I have two monitors and D2 is running on the primary monitor. When the game crashes it simply visually freezes and audio resumes on loop. If I try to alt+tab nothing happens, if I ctrl+alt+del I can get to windows desktop screen, and if I click on the game the screen is just black. It will hang for a minute or so and then close itself. No signs of RAM memory being processed once the crash happens,
No signs of GPU usage after the crash happens and the screen sits frozen or black. This has never fully crashed the computer only the D2 application itself crashes while anything else running is not affected. Day 1 I ran the game for 12+ hours and had no issues. Without changing anything on day 2 within 3 hours of playing this started to happen and has happened at least once an hour on average.
I have switched now from Fullscreen to Windowed Fullscreen hoping this will be a temporary fix to the issue. I may try to leave my clan and I am also going to try to delete the CVARS.xml file. Will update if I find a resolution.
NOTE ~ I don't know the difference between Borderless Windowed vs Windowed Fullscreen but when I select Borderless Windowed my screen bounds are moved down about a half inch and the bottom half of the menu is behind and below my windows taskbar, essentially Borderless Windowed is broken.
UPDATE -
Seems others are having this exact same issue. There is no fix as of yet.
Here is what has been tested by myself and others to attempt to resolve the issue but has NOT worked.
-Set TDR delay to 8 (and 10)
-Reinstalled graphic drivers / rerolled back to the previous version
-Reformatted my computer completely and did a fresh install of windows
-Port forwarded Blizzard / Bnet app in my firewall (and Destiny 2 itself)
-Messed around with graphic settings
-Scan and Repaired the game, it found nothing wrong
-Ran multiple diagnostics (Memtest, Furmark, Microsofts System File Checker, etc.) and passed all with flying colors.
-Checked windows event viewer for application crash logs.. None were reported in the system
- Looked/deleted CVARS.xml file this is nothing but the variable file for character graphics and display settings this did nothing and does nothing in relation to fixing crash issues.
- Users have had this issue while in a clan and while not in a clan, clan stutter issue not likely related.
- I did notice an issue where i was being placed into a fireteam of 10+ people and never selected to be in one. This glitched out my fireteam list and would seem to be adding people in the public events as if we were all being added to a fireteam. Most likely not related.
Hope someone finds a fix i will keep bug smashing please upvote other reports as well as this one if you are having the same issue. This will help get their attention.
