Since his desertion of the Shadowsmiths and the Vanguard he has become estranged to many of his former comrades, including his own Ghost, who disagreed with his decision to leave and only stayed with him out of obligation to keeping him al;ive. After the Battle of Twilight Gap, Bennett decided he was done with fighting wars, and wanted to help the civilians that were stills surviving in the last city on Earth, as opposed to traveling to other planets to chase down the Darkness. He spends most of his time providing protection to caravans venturing outside the wall and scavenging for useable parts or other survivors in need of a hand. During the Collapse, in his life before his resurrection as a Guardian, Bennett was Australian Special Forces on active duty. He and his wife Maggie were separated when the evacuation of the planet began, and she was taken hostage and executed brutally by invading forces. Bennett was crushed by the loss and never emotionally recovered / was never able to process his grief, as he was killed in the second wave that hit Earth. But nonetheless, in his second life he has tried to make the best of things. However about thirty years later, he found her again- resurrected as a Guardian, patrolling beyond the wall. Bennett couldn’t believe his eyes, it was too good to be true, but there she was- living, breathing, with no memory of their former lives. So he joined her fireteam and stuck to her like glue, loving and protecting and allowing her to get to know him all over again while he waited for her memories to come back.
