Shotgun balancing idea - Two NEW archetypes (using Impact, RoF, Range and Spread)

I would like to propose a dramatic change to the way Shotguns are balanced in Destiny, based on what I have seen in other successful multiplayer games and their approach to having more than one archetype in the same sandbox. Currently there are broadly two main variants of shotgun in the Destiny sandbox: 1 - High Impact, low rate of fire (Party Crasher +1, Conspiracy Theory-D) 2 - Low Impact, high rate of fire (Immobius, Invective, Fourth Horseman, etc). The way Bungie has 'balanced' these is not by range or spread, but solely by rate of fire. They expect you to land two shots from a high RoF shotgun in the same time as another player can land one high impact blast. The issue is, the range stat and spread of shotguns of both types is basically identical at a base level, and with perks to extend the range. So you can't start doing damage until you get within about the same distance, regardless of which archetype you are using - and the high impact shotgun can shut you down from just inside the max range so it wins in the majority of cases. Let's look at Gears of War 3 as an example of how the major shotgun variants could - and in my opinion should - be balanced: Gnasher: long range, medium rate of fire, tight spread, high ammo capacity. Designed for use from longer ranges, with multiple shots to kill, encouraging longer duels, more ADS, peeking and strafing. Close up kills can be gotten, but the spread is tight so you have to be very accurate at those tightest ranges to guarantee the kill. Double Barrel Shotgun: Low range, low rate of fire, wide spread, high impact. Far easier to land that up close and personal kill because the wide spread and high damage is very forgiving, but useless at any other ranges due to the low rate of fire and low magazine capacity. Rewards outmaneuvering your opponent to get the successful 'gank'. This tells us what Bungie needs to do in order to level the playing field for all shotguns - replace the current crop of weps with two completely new archetypes of shotgun: 1 - High damage, wide spread, low range 2 - Low damage, tight spread, high range If you think this is a good suggestion, or at least worthy of consideration by the devs, I would appreciate an upvote and comment to get this trending and maybe bring it to the attention of Cozmo and the gang.
