I don't believe Oryx wants a disconnect from the Deep. He wanted the power that came with sword logic without the caveat the worms came with. Oryx also fully believed in the ideals of the Deep, that the strong were meant to survive over the weak. He wanted that perfect shape the Deep had envisioned for the universe. Oryx had also admitted that if he were to be defeated within his own throne, his very existence was undeserved.
As for the ToM theories, I believe the weapon is more of a symbol than anything substantial. It's a symbol of Oryx's malice, of his belief in the sword logic. The weapon itself is a creation of Oryx and as long as ToM is still killing, Oryx hasn't really died.

It is possible that Oryx was using us to free him from his worm. He has learnt to commune with the Deep/Darkness directly and to presumably learnt how to harness the power directly, just as the worm gods do. I think Oryx reached the point where the worm was more hindrance than help and he hatched a plan to free himself. It maybe he struck a bargain with the Deep that the worms aren't aware of. Oryx is dead, but that doesn't really mean he can't come back in another aspect such as Auryx or even Aurush.

He still died within his throne world. The sword and killing logic is an absolute within the sword realms. It's also unknown if Oryx could even still commune with the Deep without his worm. The worm allowed him to essentially access his sword logic in the real world. Without the worm, his sword logic is only useable in the sword realms.

By having the weapon we mantle oryx but oryx is gone. He failed and was killed in his throne. He worm would of devoured his soul. There is not getting away from that. You see oryx's body floating to Saturn. What else was inside the a gas giant. His sworm speaks to oryx. It will live and grow.
