So I was thinking recently about what I enjoy in Destiny, and what I hate. I can safely say I find strikes mind numbingly boring, but I love the raids and PvP and we all know story missions could be improved but they're getting better with each expansion... but the one I just can't reconcile is patrol. Now, I would be the first to admit patrol is a bit boring at times, but it also has these amazing moments when the stars align and you get two fireteams at the Skywatch when "enemy forces move against each other", or you help a lvl 6 noob to do a warsat. Even the Court can be fun with enough people and enough antiquated runes. So I started thinking, what patrol needs is a battle mode. Imagine, an outpost or building in a clearing in patrol, your in a fireteam of six (yes, six, Bungo, make patrol six man!) and you enter the building to find a coms panel which has a patrol marker. Activating this starts a "Battlelines" mission. Ghost says he is retrieving data or some gumph and that enemy forces are on their way to stop him... Blah-blah. Queue turrets and heavy sparrows spawning in on your position and a massive onslaught of enemies starts spawning in waves of increasing difficulty that only ends when an enemy major enters a target location and stays there without dying for 3 seconds. The longer you keep up the fight, the bigger the rewards, as a loot chest spawns once the event ends. Rewards can be end game quality if you keep the fight going for over 20 minutes or more, and crazy drops spawn in for multi kills, like mega orbs that immediately reset your super, team over-shields or relic guns (like the Flame Cannon but human tech, big ass lasers maybe). It would make patrol feel rewarding at all levels and also be exciting for new players to see these massive battles unfold from the sidelines. The loot would only drop for the fireteam that activated the battle but others could join in for the fun. So, what do you think?
