One of the most common topics in the Gear section of the Feedback forum is transmogrification on armor gear as a way to change ones appearance to add diversity among the community.
I don't think transmogrification is the solution for Destiny. The mechanic works great in games such as Diablo III and World of Warcraft, but it doesn't really fit Destinys way of doing things. I won't go so deep into why I think so, so I will just leave it at: It doesn't suit Destinys loot-based grind-heavy structure.
Instead I propose the concept of ascending lower tier gear (Common, Uncommon and Rare) to Legendary tier. This could be done by taking your lower tier gear to say Banshee-44 (the Gunsmith) and pay him with a currency so that he ascends it. I don't believe this would be a hard thing for Bungie to implement, and here's why:
1) The mechanic to ascend a gear from a lower tier to a higher tier already exist within the game. Look at the masks during the Halloween event: We could take our favorite Rare mask and add glue (a consumable/currency) to it and make it into a Legendary Item on the spot. So we know for certain that the game can handle transitioning gear between the different tiers.
2) The game can handle random perks and armor stats, regardless of tiers ranging from Uncommon to Exotics.
So what would need to be done?
1) Bungie needs to assign Legendary-tier stats and perks to all gear regardless of its tier, but having those stats and perks locked out until the gear is ascended. This way, when you pick up a gear that you think looks great, you can check its current stats and perks that you can unlock by playing normally (the ones you see today), but you can also see the perks you can unlock once the item is ascended.
2) Either introduce a new currency (preferably not) or use one of the existing ones such as Etheric Light or Legendary Marks that the players use to ascend lower tiered gear to Legendary-tier.
The mechanics for this to work is already in place, which makes it a more realistic option than transmogrification for Bungie to implement due to lesser development time. It also fits Destinys "ain't nothing is for free"-kind of vibe: You still need to find that armor that you really like, but once you find it, you can make it into a legendary item.
What do you guys think?

3 отв.Why not just allow us to ascend all y1 end game gear?

Ascension for all legendary and exotic gear. Do it, bitches.

1 ответI never understood why a lot of their rares were better aesthetically then most of their legendaries. It seems that the old gear was designed by the older team maybe? Who knows the real reason. I like the idea of this. It's too bad that Bungie doesn't really do a lot of things in terms of customization. HoW made people look different, which was cool; but now everyone is back to looking the same again. At least the screenshots I have seen.

3 отв.Cool idea. What about year one raid gear? It's already legendary, but the light level is low. I really wish I could wear my VoG armor. It looked so cool.

1 ответThe problem I'm seeing (or maybe i missed it?) is loot from VoG and CE and other special items like the halloween masks. Transmog may not be the best option, but some kind of wardrobe system to easily change the appearance of an item would be favorable. I like the idea of makign rare/uncommon items legendary status, but it would be just as easy to take the skin from that item and put it over an existing legendary item with better perks. The same would work with VoG gear, just taking the skin and putting it over another piece of gear and retaining the stats of the gear you used. I say this because there is a lot of year 1 gear that looks incredible but can't be used through infusion or what you're explaining as "legendary tier". There are many legendary tier items in the game but many are low level and can't be infused or utilize your version of ascension because of their status already.

1 ответI completely agree. Ascending is a very simple option to go with. I didn't think how random perks would work assuming they could remain the same or be re rolled. I do very much like the designs of the rare gear but feel forced to wear the poorly designed legendary gear. Not really getting a chance to showcase my style enough.

1 ответbump. This might actually work, as it has something at it's core that Bungie approves of ... More Grind! But still, I honestly prefer the look of most of the existing blue to the current limited legendary. They should require Hadium Flakes and a Stolen Rune to upgrade. Give us a reason to farm the dreadnought.
