D2 is better than launch-D1. However, D2 isn't even remotely close to being as good as Year 2 D1/TTK.
For me, D2 is not fun because there is no reason to go out and "Do stuff."
There is nothing worth grinding for. The end-game sucks. Strikes are pointless.
You get more from completing a Public Event in 3 minutes than you do for playing a strike for 20 minutes.
All of the items that were fun to grind for are gone. Strange Coins, Motes of Light, etc etc etc.
Bungie has implemented fake difficulty to the Nightfall by adding a timer instead of actually making the enemies do more damage, and us take more damage.
Shaders are now consumables, and get this, apparently they made them consumables "To keep people playing" LOL!! I'm dead. If you wanted people to keep playing, then you should have brought back random rolls.
No more random rolls. My gun isn't unique compared to someone else's. No one actually cares that your Better Devils is blue and mine is red.
They removed the ability to choose which PvP gamemode we want to play by consolidating all game modes into two stupid playlists, Competitive and Quickplay.
The quality of life infusion changes made with Rise of Iron are gone, and completely redone in a way that f*****s us all over.
They give us a map, but don't even allow you to see your team mates on the map. And when we mark a spot on the map, our team can't see what we marked. Those two things should be basic additions to the game.
The removal of the "Quest" tab. That right there was stupid. We have challenges, Milestones, quests, and not a dedicated tab in the menu to look at all of them? Come on......
The idea to not give your guardian a Sparrow until you hit level 20 is stupid. It's just a way to hide how short the story is so people don't Sparrow through all of it.
The time-to-kill on all weapons is too slow. I don't like it.
Most Exotics are more unique than they are actually viable.
PvP is boring, and too slow. Destiny isn't an E-Sport MLG game so stop trying to make it like Halo. Halo is good as Halo. Destiny isn't.
The introduction of Kinetic, Energy, and Power slots was marketed by Luke Smith as a way for us players to have "More freedom" in our loadouts, which is a euphemism for "We made Special weapons damn near useless in PvP. Especially Snipers." I feel like I have way less freedom with the new weapon slot changes.
Lost Sectors are boring. I can enter one and kill the boss, then open the chest all within about 60 seconds. After you do all of them once, there is no replay value unless you feel like farming for tokens, in which case is not an efficient way to farm them at all.
This is all just my opinion. I shared some of the complaints I have with the game without elaborating on what can be done to change them. I'm not elaborating because I'd be wasting my time. Bungie molds Destiny into the game they want, not the game we want. Destiny 2 is proof of that.
There is no need to respond with condescending remarks. You don't need to ask me why I play the game if I don't like it either.
EDIT* The amount of hateful and rude responses to this post is disgusting. All I did was give my issues to the game in hopes Bungie would see it and possibly make an effort to change the issues I have that a lot of others have too. I wish Destiny was a community where we could share our opinions and thoughts about the game without being lynched. That would be cool.
Also to the people who keep saying "That isn't a fair comparison because D1 had 3 years of content", you're only proving my point. Read the title. It doesn't take a genius to understand that the title suggests that D1 is better than D2 "at the moment", suggesting that can change in the future with added content and changes to better suit what we want.
Also by saying that, you're not helping your case at all. You'd think that with a sequel, all of the improvements from the first iteration would come forth to the sequel because that's common sense. By saying "It's to be expected that D2 would suck on launch compared to 3 years of D1" you're indirectly pointing out the incompetence of Bungie. In the event that you "Expect" D2 to not be as good as D1, you're literally saying you acknowledge Bungie's incompetence. You're really not helping your case at all so please just stop embarrassing yourself with that and actually think about what you're saying before you say it.

i agree i heard there adding vog to this game but i will always run vog on d1 because d2 raids actually are kinda bad then d1' u dont get the excitment when you do scourge or leviathan rather then feeling good running a wrath or kings if they add better loot drops in d2 i could concider running one every now and then but for now d1 will always be rememberd as the number 1 game on my list

i totally agree with you, it has been 2 years since its release and ive gotta say, d1 will be good as always. im a new player to destiny 2, that means, its only 1 day since i really started to play d2. (yes, i got the disc when it first came out, but i started it in 2020) it is not a hate comment but i want to add things i did not see in this post. -the shades of the game itself: when i enter nessus, for example, the vissuals feel like if it was an instagram filter, the shadows are green/blue-like and its hard to see where im pointing at, it would be nice if they removed those. (i have even tried the daltonic settings and it goes the same, its not a big deal, but it is something i have seen) -actually i like that there are more campaigns than in d1, but the ghaul/main one is quite short! (i finished it in less than a day) -the dcv: i know it might work like how it is named itself, the less played things in d2 are going to leave to get more space, i liked it because it will run faster, i loved that they are taking the cosmodrome back! but the problem is: why are they taking the new destinations? arent they meant to be the main attraction of the game? it is what marks a difference between d1 and d2! (it is a shame) if somebody has something to reply to me, then go ahead, and we can discuss it c:

I know this is a super old post, but my friends and I have this converaation from time to time. The way the two games feel, I believe that bungie never wanted there to be a destiny 2. I believe they were probably just going to keep adding DLC. I think we have Activision to blame for that. (I could be wrong) Destiny 1 was definitely more of a grind and was geared more towards the.hardcore gamer, while destiny 2 leans to favor the filthy casual. I enjoy both games, but due to bungie no longer giving D1 updates, I lean more to D2. At the moment D2 still isnt quite at D1 level, however i hope they merge the two games more. I hope the add the exotics and all the parts of D1 we loved into D2....also I hope they fix crucible's P2P and connection based matches. We need skill based
-
Feel like adding it hasn't gotten any better. With Activision looming over everything and people constantly blaming Bungie, it's taken all the way to Shadowkeep before we'll get anything genuinely interesting, captivating, and just worth my time an money. Not that boring filler crap we got before. I am so stoked for the Shadowkeep update, especially given it's finally going to combine the old Destiny and new Destiny into something that actually works. Plus, all that D1 content I'm sure we're going to be revisiting. More than just the Moon and the Exotics.

Personally, I've played Destiny 1 and I've liked it waaay more than destiny 2. D1 was actually difficult and fun to grind for hours and hours on end. D2, there's none of that. I finished the game in a week even though the freaking shotguns were in the heavy slot and you can equip 2 scouts!! That's -blam!-. The reason D2 is remotely successful is because of 2 things. 1. they are new players and have no common sense. 2. They are old players and hope to Bungie that the game will change into something good. I rest my case.
-
D1 > D2 The number of people who would gladly have had more D1 - new planets etc. but within the D1 gamespace is very high. Bungie are trying but they had something great at end of D1 (TTK). The Iron Lord stuff was ok - but nothing spectacular - just more stuff to do - which was ok. The artifacts were cool though.

4 RepliesNope destiny 1 is trash hitbox sucks shotguns are trash and tryhards destiny 2 is better
-
Somehow bungie made it so there's more to do in D2 than D1 while simultaneously having less to do in D2 than D1. Idk how bungie did it but they did.
-
I agree with everything you said. Also in my opinion bungie goes from like a million exotics to like 2. The crucible wow on a scale in destiny it is like 2 thousand and destiny 2 it's like 1 thousand.

2 RepliesThis is my first ever comment on here, and probably will be my last, but I felt the need because this post can't be more true even 5 months after release. I've given D2 about 200 hours of gameplay and my friends and I made the decision to go back to D1 this past weekend. Think I will continue my efforts to get a God roll Imago Loop...

1 ReplyAs a year one destiny player i wholeheartedly agree with just about everything you've posted. I personally don't think that TTK was the best content wise (kinda seemed like a train losing momentum at that point) but the edits they made to the game and how it played were well executed. I started destiny loving just about every second of it, and after literal months of time spent in D1 i was excited for what D2 could be. After over 100 hours of D2 gameplay i feel the game lacks not only end game but content in general. My only logical guess is that with D1 they were working with the scraps they managed to keep from the original D1 (written by Joseph Staten) and were able to DLC everything out into 3 years kinda patching it together. That is why there are flaws in the lore and some things don't line up throughout the story (key example the "darkness"). Whereas with D2 they had no scraps to work with, just a universe to build on and whoever they have writing the story now just can't seem to make it happen. I would love to see Bungie get their act together and put together some sort of redeeming dlc for D2 that restores some of the magic. Even better (and i know it is probably impossible) if they hired back the guys they fired and just rereleased D1 the way it was supposed to come out i would literally throw my money at them. Alas all it seems we can do is hope, remember the good times, and play other games.

The other day my son came to me With the D1 disc. I asked him why is bringing me the D1 disc when we have D2? He said he likes D1 more. I’ve been in denial all this time because I pre-ordered D2 as digital. But I have to agree — D1 was WAY much more fun. The art direction especially. D2 is kind of like “let’s make it ugly and weird so we have space for improvement”. D2 doesn’t see nearly as much play as D1 did. Destiny used to be THE game I’d turn to when I just wanted random fun. Now it makes me pause to decide whether I should spend any time on it or play another game. Weird.

2 RepliesI like the fact that you stated that is better "at the moment" instead of just saying it's completely worse and will never ever get better and will be a horrible game from start to finish, and that this is just your own opinion. I personally like D2 much more than D1, just as you liking D1 better than D2 is perfectly fine.
-
1 ReplyBut how do you really feel about Destiny 2?
-
Thank you for your honest and transparent opinion! I was a dedicated D1 player; had a character for each class, completely maxed out. I knew that game inside and out. Always expected more from it though. Was disappointed time and time again. I mean what game drops DLC that ruins previous DLC? I'm not even talking about the exotics. Well, you get the point. I'm always checking back to see if this game is worth it. Although it would take a lot to get me invested again.

Spot on point. D1 was and still is a great game! (aside from the wait times for Crucible now). I was expecting D2 to ramp everything up. I wanted my Guardian to feel even more powerful, be faster, have new weapons, see new places. In short, I wanted to be able to wreck enemies with cool new Supers and abilities. It's a video game! I want to feel superhuman! At the same time, I want unique defenses, or be able to move faster, or blink further or heal others so there's still balance. Why oh why did they slow everything down, take away powers, reduce weapons take away options? They went the wrong way with D2. They should have ramped everything up to "11." Instead they turned it down to a whisper of it's old self. But, I do like the visual upgrade. Wishing I could play D1 in 4k!

Good post. Reminds me a bit of what happened to Dragon Age after Origins. Definitely feels like a stripped down version of D1 like for a tablet or something. The only things I’ve left to do on D2 is raids which I tend to avoid because one can’t guarantee finding a team without matchmaking and Crucible which, like any other PvP, I find tedious. D2 is effectively on ice now until the new DLC arrives. Oh well, there’s always D1...

1 ReplyUntill they fix d2 I am going to go back to d1, I can't believe I wasted 90$ on bungie's new helping pile of crap. Honestly we should all rebel by going back to destiny 1. Maby they will listen to us and learn from their mistakes then...
-
Truthfully, D2 is absolute garbage. I played, avidly, compulsively for like 2 years (Destiny 1). All of the screw ups that Bungie made, and I still loved the game. Destiny 2 is like.... a completely watered down casual's dream. It just sucks. It has no replayability, crucible is truthfully absolute trash (don't even get me started there)... Honestly, I think this could have been the nail in the coffin of the game for me. Sad

So after the session expires it just takes what you typed and deletes it OH WAIT I am on something bungie made lol Things are goin downhill here as of late. Anyway I totally agree 1000% with this post, not much more I can add other than the radar sucks, its like coming out of a blink jump forever now, whereas it offered an opportunity for a fun mechanic in D1, (where my wife and I went back to out of sanity). The mobility of D1 is amazing, you feel powerful in your super, I like that D2 came out and split the player base its way easier to have fun close games now that the @sshole kids have all gone to D2, there are some idiots abroad still but its cleaned up alot. I hope nothing changes from here. We are having a blast enjoying D1 and are thankful D2 could show us the error of our ways when we used to complain how D1 was broken. Thank you bungie for making such a stark comparison, I feel bad for you guys in the year or so ahead, I would imagine you cant wait to get started on D3, I will join back up and check that out but I highly doubt D2 can be salvaged.

"How can your second or third Better Devils be different?" Answer: it isn't. But thanks for the free legendary marks. Oops...I mean shards lol
-
Also the ability tree is now A ability twig I hope to god that improves!
-
1 ReplyI have no motivation to play anymore. I'm so -blam!-ing tired of doing public events that I could scream. The exotic and powerful loot drops are useless for gaining levels too. I've never been this disappointed in a game. What a -blam!-ing pile of shit.
-
2 RepliesKeep your chin up man. I'm behind you 100%. Don't let the casual players that need gear spoonfed to them get you down. All your points are valid, and the more people who feel this way and make themselves heard on the forums like this is going to help.
-
1 ReplyHmm three years worth of content compared to vanilla D2 no Duh.
-
1 ReplyI can agree D2 is supposed to be a upgrade to D1 all that content/ ideas in D1 should’ve already been implemented into D2 to make it worth the “sequel” title it deserves yes D1 has 3 years of progress but at the same time D2 shouldn’t take 3+ years to get where D1 was at (like do you see where I’m coming from?) private matches GONE, 6v6 GONE , freedom to pick game modes for pvp and PVE GONE, the only good things I can really see in D2 right now is bigger planets honestly and how fun the revamped supers are (except for the 3rd ones there basically the same lol) and on top of that the former abilities we had in D1 got removed from that class and turned into EXOTICS !! LMFAO and don’t get me started on trials that sh1t is EASY ASF now back then in D1 you had to work for that social space it was like something to brag about to get into it now it’s like “ I went flawless yay! And the social space too! Cool!” And then “Holy Cow I only have one win and I can see the social space COOOOOOOOOOOL” but they get nothing but a view over it lol wowzers I mean I can see why they did this to cater to the more ‘casual’ players which I can agree with is good and the supers are more “balanced” but at what cost ? 100 steps back and 20 steps forward idk it’s to early to tell I think the game will get better hopefully........ wow toxicity is really contagious lul I’ll go back to playing D2
