If your name was changed to Guardian that means bungie found your name to be inappropriate.

My username on Blizz, which is where I last played this, was Serenamina... which wouldn't be anything inappropriate? I don't remember exactly what the pop-up said, but the name to Guardian was more or less prompted by the merge (by my understanding) and not by moderation action.

Then that means the system was able to detect an obvious reason to remove the name and did so automatically. In this particular case it was probably because your bunge name cannot contain any personal information. Real names, phones, email, address etc.
