Toxic nostalgia.
Destiny 1 isn’t and wasn’t as good as people now claim it to be. I know because I was hear and people complained about it even MORE than they complain about Destiny 2.
People just have short memories.
Destiny 2 is a far better game than Destiny 1 was at this point by almost every measure.
The one thing that Destiny 1 did better is that it had a much better progression system than D2…. And 90%of complaints about D2 stem from having to interact with D2s toxic and busted progression system.
IOW—-as I’ve been saying for years—-the Milestone and Pinnacle systems are travesty, and need to die by fire.
In D1 you could play any part of the game you wanted and still progress your character. So if you burned out on one part of the game you could just switch to another part and keep enjoying play.
But in D2, this broken progression system corrals players into a very narrow and highly-repetitive weekly play loop sand the rest of the game is made largely irrelevant. Then that progression system is a busted RNG-based atrocity that serves no purpose but to time-gate activities like high level nightfalls. Yet has no impact on the play itself.
Then you add a loadout restrictive champion system, and you have a recipe for frustration and burnout.
Which keeps people from seeing that D2 is the better game, because they get focused on the sense of freedom D1 gives by LACKING those toxic systems.

Progession system is worse in D2? Iirc they are the sameish if not even better than D1 as getting to max light in D1 was awful. 8 pieces of gear needed to be at max light and only dropped from 3 activities. Hard mode raids, Trials (iirc) and Iron Banner. And there's the rare exotic engram. That was it. In D2 its soooo much easier. With the pinnacle system as there's more 2 things to grind.

Yeah, Y1 was awful, but by Y3 Bungie had Smart loot and smart drops so progression still had an RNG element but wasn’t anywhere near as obnoxious as what was to come. The Mikestonr system didn’t appear until midway through Y1 of D2. After we all figured out that the end-game was terrible and Bungie had broken the game. So there was no way to get people to play the end game, and people were leveling up playing open-world and pub events. Bungie hated that and turned the Milestone system on us. That way only the activities they wanted us to play had any progression relevance beyond soft-cap. Worse still the RNG (because we got so few drops) broke the relationship between player time investment and speed of progression. So the game became a slot machine where you gambled rather than invested your time. Hoping the game would spit out something that would progress your character. Bungie added Prime engrams and the Seasonal Artifact to try to soften this up. But it was so bad that I nearly quit the game after Y2. The Cherry-on-Top was the pinnacle system. Which game is an even smaller number of progression relevant activities, and an even more broken RNG progression system. In short, Destiny 2s progression system is IMO the worst and most maliciously designed system I’ve seen in 40 years of gaming.

You miss the bit about me actively playing D1 daily and that I’ve been playing since the very beginning too? I still stand by all my points, D1 is just a better game, it’s not nostalgia or me not being able to see this or that, on a factual level I am having an immense amount of fun playing a game that just is more destiny and less monetised mess.

작성자: TheArtist 10/31/2022 7:20:31 PMDisagree. I’ve met lots of people who enjoy playing games that are not well designed. In fact I remember getting into a heated debate about The Division with a guy on Massive/Ubisoft’s forum. Massive was overhauling the game because it was so poorly tuned that it was virtually unplayable…and even the devs admitted that their own game wasn’t fun to play in that state. Yet this guy insisted that the game was fine, he was enjoying it and Massive was going to ruin it. (They didn’t. In fact the overhaul saved the franchise.) Never mind that you’d regularly run out of ammo because you’d have to dump two whole magazines of ammo into basic mobs to get them to die, while they’d one-and-two shot you. Not to mention that you almost always had to have higher level gear equipped to clear content than it would drop as loot. The game was simply busted, yet some still came to its defense. D1 isn’t busted, but it was and is a rpg-shooter that has glaring design problems. Doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to play. I gave it 3000 hours of my life. But D2 is the better game from a design and play variety standpoint.

작성자: TheArtist 10/31/2022 9:47:12 PMOops. Thought you were someone else. Sorry. Destiny is a power-fantasy game, and mobs actually die faster in D1 than in D2. But the fact that we’re more powerful as we go deeper in the game is not a problem, it’s the point. It seems you want a test-your-skill game like Dark Souls, Elden Ring or Sekiro. Which is fine, but Destiny isn’t (and never will be) that kind of game.
