Last time SBMM was in 6s was middle of Season of the Worthy, I believe. I remember queue times being much longer than now & a lot of players from China and Japan in my lobbies. I still get people from around the world but less than it was in SBMM.
Did it kill Crucible? No idea. I never looked into the numbers to support which one is better, nor do I think Bungie’s SBMM works. I don’t feel like I play better players regularly in it. Comp supposedly has more strict SBMM and it still doesn’t work. I get bad teammates against a more stacked team just like now.
Comp supposedly has more strict SBMM and it still doesn’t work.
Comp and Elim have SBMM but connection quality and matchmaking time are prioritised over match fairness. I’d say it’s fairly loose SBMM. There’s a lot of variance in skill but I guess around half the matches I play are tightly contested. A lot of the ones that aren’t are due to afk or quits, rather than poor matchmaking. Which is why I’m confused as to why a lot of people equate SBMM with a terrible experience.
If Comp is that loose, and what they are implemented is a loose version of that, then I don’t expect much of a difference.
At the very least, it should keep the lowest skilled away from the highest skilled. Those 2 groups shouldn’t be getting matched together. How much deeper than that it goes, we’ll have to wait and see.
I just don’t want to queue with people from China and Japan. Should never happen.
Absolutely.
