Your argument is so laughably bad, I don’t know how to come up with a response beyond, um no? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Can’t even come up with a response... new content should require new weapons.

But as it is currently being implemented, it feels like a lady, low effort way of extending play time. Like I said, this used to be my favorite game, but I can't get behind this decision.

Like I said, this used to be my favorite game, but I can't get being this decision.
So far there’s one clear negative to sunsetting. It could be easily changed. Sunsetting will be far more beneficial than harmful. It’s far more harmful for the same weapons to be used over and over again for years while new weapons get used for infusion fuel. What’s the point in creating new weapons when they aren’t getting used?
-
How exactly is it harmful to have people using the weapons they prefer?
When they aren’t using the new weapons, the new weapons become pointless. When the new weapons become pointless, grinding for new loot becomes pointless. When grinding for loot becomes pointless, Destiny becomes pointless. Recluse shouldn’t be in 75% of Loadouts forever.
-
So how does re releasing the same content accomplish that goal?
Rereleasing what? We’ve already talked about how the retiring weapons are flawed right now. That could easily be changed. That’s the only valid criticism you’ve brought up.

Why is it imperative that everyone use the newest gear? Maybe some people don't like the way new gear looks or feels. Take season if dawn for instance. I really disliked most of the weapon designs, so I used older weapons. Some weapons perform better by design. If Bungie changes the sunsetting system to something less lazy, I may change my opinion. But for now, this is a deal breaker for me.

New weapons need to have advantages over old weapons. Otherwise new weapons are pointless. They’ve tried new perks and perk combos and it hasn’t worked.

I'm just posting my reasoning for not moving forward with the franchise. I don't agree with it. It doesn't sound fun. Time for a new game. If you like it, good for you. If not, that's ok too.

Meaning they’ll be usable in the newer activities. That’s the point of sun setting. They’ve tried other ways to make the new weapons replace old ones. Hasn’t worked. Time to try something else.
-
Increasing light level is not a reason to sunset gear.
That’s literally what sunsetting is... some weapons light level will be capped. For example recluse will be 1060 capped, but you can still use it once it gets sunset. A newer weapon will be better for content over 1060.
-
If light level is the problem, then maybe that system needs to be reevaluated.
Light level isn’t a problem. It’s the solution to the current problem. New weapons need an advantage over old weapons. The advantage can’t cause power creep. Light level is that advantage.
-
Apparently it's not. It's been with us since the beginning of Destiny and we are still having this "problem".
Because we haven’t had level caps on weapons. That starts next season. We’re having this problem because they didn’t start weapon capping sooner.
-
Again, we are level capping gear to be re-released at a future date. They may have mentioned ways to fix the system, but that's not what we were given. They have you also not made any formal announcement about correcting the system. If they change it, I will re-evaluate the situation at that point. But until then, no more money for Bungie.
If that's true then what are the reprised weapons being handed out in iron banner? Looks like the same guns with higher light levels to me.
They are getting their max level raised. They aren’t going to retire all weapons every season. That would make the weapon pool incredibly small.
