Your idea, and the way they are implementing sun setting, are the same thing just done two different ways. Again, they aren’t removing your weapons. You will just be at a disadvantage using them in endgame content where power matters. Not that big a deal.
Some weapons need this treatment, such as mindbenders, spare rations, beloved, pinnacles, etc. Time for the old to go to make room for the new. If that means players too, then they were the old and were holding the game back from improving further.

Knowingly driving away your customers is akin to shooting yourself in the foot. It is always a dumb idea that will most certainly lead to failure.

Not many games receive the amount of backlash that D2 has gotten OR the mass amount of exodus that resulted from it, certainly not so fast. Don’t sugarcoat it, kid, they screwed up, and they paid a heavy price for it. There’s a reason why destiny used to rank high on the twitch directory and now it’s at the bottom with no one willing to watch this trash fire anymore. The developers simply royally screwed up, fanboy, and they continue to do so. That’s the reason 17 million people have ditched the game so far and and even more will depart as they realise just how incompetent Bungie is and how unfun their game have become.

Or when they thought artifact power was a great idea to implement in re-skinned trials, getting even their precious streamers to call out their severe stupidity and shortsightedness?
