Bungie, your idea of sunsetting all our weapons eventually will kill the drive of your players doing the main thing in a looter shooter. God roll farming.
I really think, removing the seasonal mod slots instead of eventually retiring all our hard earned guns is the way to go. I mean look at Year 1 weapons from D2. You can technically make all these work still and still can use them in modes like trials, iron banner and some end game activities without champions but almost noone uses them because they don't have a mod slot. That system works! People can still use the guns if they want to but rather try the new shiny loot cause its better and gives more options, not cause the developer forces them to retire.
Who cares if people will use their hard earned spare in trials 2 years from now? Give us better oprions and we will retire it voluntarily.
Noone will want to grind out god rolls anymore if they expire after a year, that's not how "respecting players time" or a fix for "fomo" works. You are acting like "hey if there's nothing valuable from a year in destiny because it's sunset, theres no fomo eventually. Absolutely beyond me that you as a company are planning on making the same mistake, you did in D1 and literally everyone hated.
I am telling you, sunsetting will kill the lootflow / players drive to obtain it and devalues the weapons and the players time.

I read the first line and stopped. Sun setting older weapons will not kill the drive. It's the opposite. With the constant ability to level up any weapon to the highest level they have eliminated any purpose for looting. The exception is the possible 1 weapon that gets a top tier roll to set it apart. As long as people can use their current god roll weapons why look for anything new that will be similar to what you have. You will not spend time to find another god roll of the same type. However if you current favorite weapon gets phased out you now have to find a new toy... back to the grinding board. This also allows for better weapon perk setups as they will be rotating out so creating another monster like the recluse will not break the meta for years. Some weapons need to go. Others need a new spin.

8 답변작성자: TheArtist 5/11/2020 1:24:29 PMYou can do that for current weapons like the Seraph weapons (their true power lay in the mods). But you can't do that with the backlog of three years of other legendary and exotic weapons. Bungie has no way to retire the power of these weapons from the game other than by nerfing them into the ground. So right now, all we have is the ILLUSION of choice. Because Bungie FORCIBLY retires weapons they want gone from the end-game meta by BREAKING them with nerfs. So they are not only do they not dominate the end-game.....they often become so frustrating to use that they don't get used anywhere else. (Sleeper Simulant) I'd much rather have Bungie simply cap the ability to infuse a weapon so that it isn't end-game viable.....but leave the weapon otherwise intact. So that I can enjoy using it in other parts of the game.
Noone will want to grind out god rolls anymore if they expire after a year,
Actually many of us will. Veteran loot-gamers have always understood the need to retire power from the game. Which is why we don't fall in love with our gear....and we went into these grind without any expectations that we would use them forever. In fact when Bungie made that promise that we could keep our gear and carry it with us throughout the game back in D1....I dismissed it right away. Its a promise they never lived up to....and were never GOING to be able to live up to. Bungie has always found ways to retire problem weapons. The reboot between Y1 and Y2 of D1. Blowing up our vaults so that D1 guns got left behind. The endless parade of nerfs that broke super-regen armor....and moved last year's pinnacle weapons out of the meta. That "promise" has always been an illusion and an empty shell. They only took them away once. But they always found other ways to make sure that you didn't use weapons they didn't want you using.

2 답변Please do not get upsetty @ me. I understand where you’re coming from. But some of us are used to the typical mmo/WoW philosophy of new content bringing better rewards and leaving old items in the past. Some of us don’t play to get attached to a single weapon. Some of us want this to feel like an mmo and progress every season. Like I said, I do understand where you’re coming from, but your personal desires do not represent the desires of everyone. I for one am very pro-sunsetting and I can explain myself if you would like.

12 답변작성자: Crystilonus2011 5/10/2020 10:07:43 PMYour idea, and the way they are implementing sun setting, are the same thing just done two different ways. Again, they aren’t removing your weapons. You will just be at a disadvantage using them in endgame content where power matters. Not that big a deal. Some weapons need this treatment, such as mindbenders, spare rations, beloved, pinnacles, etc. Time for the old to go to make room for the new. If that means players too, then they were the old and were holding the game back from improving further.

13 답변They just need to significantly buff existing weapon perks: 1. Hip-fire grip exponentially increases accuracy and magnetism. 2. Triple tap refunds 3 bullets back to the magazine, possibly out of thin air. 3. Threat detector gives super fast reload speed. 4. Zen moment is combined with under pressure, dynamic sway reduction, pulse monitor, and underdog into 1 perk, maximising stability. 5. Air assault gives faster handling, more accuracy and greater damage while in the air. 6. Field prep and firmly planted are combined into 1 perk. 7. Dragonfly does much more damage and has a greater, more noticeable blast radius. Or something like that. The perks are way too stale and weak. Bungie really needs to hire people with creativity and not only based on their gender.

5 답변Imagine not understanding the point of sunsetting. Imagine proposing something that would have literally the exact opposite effect of sunsetting.

2 답변Am I the only one who just naturally wants to farm new weapons, even if they're trash? I farmed rolls for all the Seraph weapons and ended up liking all of them more than I thought I would. I don't get how ppl stick with 2-3 year old guns and still have fun. Bungie shouldn't need to sunset weapons to make us use new ones, we should already be eager to try new guns out.

3 답변Seasonal mods practically drive a weapons usage in pve though. Why do you think so many exotic weapons are on the curb rather than being used? Because they can't slot seasonal mods. And thus the exotics that have the effect built in are forever valuable. Also god roll farming has never been a good way to extend the length of the game. So unless they actually manage to overhaul the way to do so I can't in good faith agree to anything that supports the current way of god roll farming. I won't touch on the rest of your post. Just feels like easy bait for up votes/circle jerking into an echo chamber.

11 답변작성자: Artisan 5/10/2020 4:11:22 PMI'd be very happy if they ditched: - Elemental affinities - The artifact - The Seasonal Mod slot - Champions - Sunsetting weapons - Blue Engrams - Power levelling tied to weapons --- But they won't as they're 1. not listening to the community 2. are in love with the ideas of the above.

How about weapon repair > weapon retirement? Still the same purpose but they can still be infused and preserved for later to be used in all content. (at least this way crucible doesn't suffer anymore than it will) A new stat that could be adjusted accordingly with Bungie's view of how long a weapon should last. Multiple repairs could become more costly if need be.
-
I got an idea. How about instead of making exotics unusable, how about making armor mods for their type of weapon? Like an Exotic Hand Cannon Unstoppable Leg Mod or something like that. Or an Exotic Submachine Gun Anti-Barrier Arm Mod. I think that would be good, that way exotics aren’t useless.

2 답변i worked hard to get my recluse my mountain top and redrix amongst many more weapons i use only to be told in a few short months they will be useless in future expansions, why would i even bother grinding any pinnacle/ritual/ weapons in the future .this makes the grind pointless.

Yeah but if your main argument against sunsetting weapons is “give us better options”, you move into the power creep territory. Many people won’t bother to grind for a new weapon if it’s not at least somewhat better than their current, so you have those people using the same weapons for years upon years, and then you have the grinders that start the power creep.

작성자: Yosemite Sam 5/10/2020 2:15:27 PMYou can thank the director for this one. He did the same thing with the first game in the first year and the player base dropped off. The thing about it, it was only for a lot of it to be resold back to use as a carrot to get us to buy the next DLC. They will do this again. I get lightening up the load, but not everything just to be sold back to us or have us regrind what we have done a couple of times already.
