The ending would have been better if Rey had stayed dead and Ben went on to reclaim his heritage instead of what happened. The ending would have had to deal with loss, redemption, suspicion, and finding ones place in the universe. Instead we got the no-conflict "feelgood" ending that made no goddamn sense.

It’s why Rey’s adopting the Skywalker surname as a matter of choice rather than birth was one of the few impactful moments in the movie. The gold lightsaber represented a restoration of the Balance and a healing of the schism between Sith and Jedi. As symbolized by a Palpatine—who had chosen to be called a Skywalker—-to carry on the Jedi tradition. As it was before the split between Sith and Jedi.
