I’m still on the fence about it. The good: - The gameplay is fun. Flying around and using your guns and supers feels good. -The gameplay progression loop of getting better gear and leveling up is already addictive. - World looks amazing. The bad: - I hate the locked load outs. Being stuck with the same gun for an entire mission sucks. The only way to change them is to return to Fort Tarsis. It makes it hard to test new powers and weapons to find stuff you like. - I don’t like the overheating mechanic for flying. It takes the best thing about the game (flying) and says “no you’re not allowed to do that for too long”. Just let us fly around freely. - Story seems a little weak. But that’s to be expected for a game like this. The dialogue is a little cringey. - The open world seems kind of empty of content. There’s not a lot to do in free-play and what there is seems a little boring. - Not sure how much longevity this game has. I got a little bored of running the stronghold after two attempts. They will have to step up the content if they want people to keep playing. All in all though I’m definitely keen to play the full game. It is fun. I’m just not sure if it’s the sort of game I will want to play endlessly like Destiny.

  • Wait!, you play Destiny endlessly? I hope your speaking about Destiny 1. Anyways, I totally agree with your lockout loadout while in mission. I mean, at least in free play we should be able to change out weapons. That, or we are going to need a shooting range at Fort Tarsis. Who's gonna want to load into free play, take a couple shots of a new weapon, exit out, change weapon, reload into freeplay. That's crazy.

That's crazy.
It’s not just weapons. It’s abilities as well - and how they work together. Figuring out which ability works well in combos with other abilities and guns is going to be a pain if you have to go through multiple loading screens just to swap something out.

  • I didn't even think about the abilities! Please tell me other people are thinking like us. Must go to Reddit and see what peeps are saying there.

The locked loadouts (and the fact that you can't see or get loot until your mission is over) are problematic in my opinion too -- it encourages a very X-Com approach: pick mission, do mission, return to base. Having that setup has knock-on effects: - You can't adapt to team composition, and in this game, everything can be pub groups. - You can't change to newer, better loot that you picked up in the game. This has up- and downsides, but you can't improve your maximum performance mid-mission. - You can't flow from one mission to the next, or go from activity to harder activity without stopping back at base (with about 5 loading screens each time). - You'll want to do a freeplay session between mission stages (breaking your flow) because you don't want to take untested guns into a mission, especially if you can't say "this is crap, I better switch to my tried and true gun." - It means that the size of the world / environment is really meaningless, and missions aren't integrated into the exploration opportunities. The world could be the size of the sun, but that doesn't matter because it's always "out to mission, back to base."

The loadouts were locked, but eventually you could carry more guns. Once fast travel points were unlocked in the world, the loadout could be changed through those.
