If you're talking about equipment, here's my recommendation:
Gambit is a source of some very, very powerful weapons. The Dreaded Venture sniper rifle is a nice high impact kinetic sniper that's very easy to use, there's a Bad Omens you can get from prestiging your Gambit rank a couple times that's basically a void Hunger of Crota, it has tracking and cluster bombs. But above all those is the Breakneck auto rifle which you get from completing 40 gambit matches with auto rifles, you can get the quest from the Drifter.
There's also Escalation Protocol, which is the source for the Ikelos shotgun, one of the best energy weapons in the game. Escalation Protocol is on a five week rotation with a different wave 7 boss each time, only one of those five bosses drops exclusively the shotgun, two of them drop any of the three weapons.
As for Exotics, you're going to want Whisper of the Worm (Black Hammer/Spindle). It's a bit complicated how you get it, but it's currently only available Fridays through Sundays, so you might want to look up a guide and get that done. Other good exotics are D.A.R.C.I, Tractor Cannon, and Sleeper Simulant (obtained via a quest on Mars). I don't remember what class you said you were, but Hunters will want Orpheus Rigs, Celestial Nighthawk, Shards of Galanor, or Raiden Flux. Warlocks will want Lunafaction Boots, Crown of Tempests, Skull of Dire Ahamkara, Geomag Stabilizers, Starfire Protocol, or Phoenix Protocol. Titans, probably Insurmountable Skullfort, Doomfang Pauldrons, or Hallowfire Heart (RIP Titan Exotics).
Of the new subclasses, I would prioritize Way of a Thousand Cuts for Hunters, Attunement of Grace for Warlocks, and Code of the Commander for Titans.
Hope this helps :)

I'd offer to help but I'm on PC now, switched from PS4. Keep in mind there are five powerful drops per week you can get from being in a clan (four from doing activities with clanmates: crucible, nightfall, raid, gambit, and one from getting 5000 clan xp per week from Hawthorne's bounties), and the Spider and Drifter both offer bounties that give powerful rewards. You also (I think) get a powerful drop from doing the highest level of Blind Well in the Dreaming City. I'm not sure how new you are to D2, but god rolls have changed a bit from D1. The go to perks in PvE for almost everything is a combination of either outlaw and kill clip or outlaw and rampage. 100 rpm shotguns are really good, I personally still like my high impact snipers and the old rules still apply there, you want to either get higher mag size or shorter reloads. Explosive rounds is also in my opinion an undervalued perk on snipers, it raises bodyshot damage a ton and also gives a slight damage boost against yellow bars. Rampage tends to be better than kill clip on hand cannons, for the others it doesn't matter so much, also scout rifles suck at the moment

I played D2 up until around the first DLC and got caught up in school. Couldn't play much because of constant studying before graduation. I got into D1 because I had most online classes so I was able to play day and night.
