Far, FAR less variety in year 2 than in year 1. At least we would use different primaries for different burn weeks. Now, we like a primary, and it never gets changed out. Why should it? There aren't any weekly burns, and I like this gun. I love my Nirwen. I never switch it out (except for an exotic sometimes, but I did that in year 1). Nirwen kills all the things. Why would I switch? Variety is absolute worst, and dumbest argument against Elemental Primaries. The effect of taking them out was the exact opposite of what they intended. It did not cause us to try more guns, it caused us to find one gun and stick to it. Now, there may be more variety between guardians. I like Nirwen, another guardian might like Treads. But for individual guardians, the variety has been dramatically reduced. And so has the fun.

Yr 1 raid/strike exotics - ghorn, icebreaker Yr 2 raid/strike exotics - tom, spindle, maybe raze lighter or sleeper. What do most people use in the primary slot? Any scout, handcannon, or pulse that has fatebringer perks or similar. People like useful perks. Firefly, explosive rounds, outlaw. The community chases this setup for a reason.
-
Wouldn't really matter because everyone I've seen only uses a very specific load out and while the gun my change its still the same type. Ex going from one scout to a different scout. I rarely ever hear anyone change to a different gun that isn't born from situation. Ex oh I use an auto rifle but it's time to kill oryx so let's get my touch out or something similar.
-
Bad ex. Everyone I play with switch to TOM when fighting Oryx. Anyway, Year 1, Fatebringer, Black Spindle, Ghorn. Can't tell me that wasn't the meta. Year 2 with no elemental I use Telesto on Undying mind strike, Dragons breath on Rockets McDickface, Raze Lighter on the Three Psions. I'm using all different weapons for different situations. Year one was the meta for everything except burn Nightfalls and a couple cheese points.

This was a discussion about Elemental Primaries, and you're on about Specials and Heavies that you use in year 2. Stay on topic! We always used Heavies for bosses that could be melted. We used specials on Sepiks and the Nexus. Most of us agree that Ghally needed to go. This discussion isn't about Ghally. There was far more variety in year 1 among individual guardians than in year 2. We all use the same primary all the time. There is no reason to switch once you've gotten you're god roll primary. In year 1, we switched every week for a new burn. In year 2, we switch only to equip an exotic for a little while, then back to our favorite god roll primary. Year 1 > Year 2.

Among legendary primaries you're pretty much right, pick your favorite and go. However, with the removal of elemental primaries I find my self running way more exotic primaries than I used to, and that's given me a huge amount of variety. When I go in to run heroic strikes, I'll use all of the below situationally. NTTE Jade Rabbit Ace Of Spades Zhalo supercell Bad Juju Red Death If elemental legendaries existed, I would always choose one over an exotic. Getting rid of them has made me use a wider variety of primaries especially now with the ammo nerfs.
-
Did you use Thorn in year 1? Did you use Mida in year 1? Did you use Vex in year 1? All of those weapons were far better than any Elemental Primary. The problem isn't that there aren't enough Primary Elemental Exotics, it's that there aren't enough good Primary Exotics. In year 2, for most activities, if you are using an Elemental Primary, you are weakening yourself. Teletso, Raze Lighter, Black Spindle, or Truth should be part of you loadout depending on the situation. But, most primaries, other than Red Death, Bad Juju, or Zhalo (which proves the point) should never be equipped in lieu of a Secondary or Heavy due to their marked underwhelmingness (new word, you saw it here first!). Those three situational primaries should only be equipped in situations that they are needed. Every other time, we should be using one of the Specials or Heavies mentioned above. This accounts for more than 90% of the time. Ok, rant over.

Are you listing those guns for pve? I'm only talking pve. If you think those guns were better than an elemental primary for pve activities in y1, then you're deluded. The only exotics I would run over one of the exotic primaries I listed above is an exotic sword (I could see sleeper, but I personally don't like it). Telesto isn't that much better than a regular fusion rifle (though I'd never run a fusion anyways), spindle isn't that much better than a regular sniper outside of the raid, and truth has absolutely no advantage over a legendary launcher. Also, zhalo isn't good because of the arc damage, it's good for it's crowd control and super and ammo regen. Same as bad juju. As an added bonus it also has crazy strong synergy with blood bound tethers.
-
I didn't know about the synergy with blood bound, I'll try it. However, the Zhalo is one of the worst handling weapons I've ever used outside of CoD. It isn't fun to use, and it feels like I'm wrestling a wild boar. (Keep in mind that, as mentioned, my favorite primary is Nirwen and mine has two stability perks and Third Eye). Yes, I was mentioning the first group of weapons in relation to PVP. (Also, Truth). Raze Lighter is the year 2 Boss melter. Telesto is actually way better than you give it credit for, and it should always be used on Secondary burn, and Void burn (especially when you have both) Nightfall and Prison. And Black Spindle is for the Raid. I did say "depending on the situation". But that covers most situations, other than Strikes, which don't really matter because anything works on them because they are hell of easy. Other than your Blood Bound comment, I see no reason to ever use an exotic primary over my Nirwen.
-
Bloodbound synergy: the lightning arcs are basically multiplied by how many enemies you tether, which gives you double kills, which gives you unlimited ammo and more super energy to repeat the process. It's crazy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t58H8tmb8UU Funnily enough, I actually consider heroic strikes harder than kings fall anymore. Combat wise, the raid is extremely simple. Thus I guess I was talking mostly about strikes, where i find a variety of exotic primaries useful. For the raid I just run ToM for the whole thing + any sniper. Good enough to down everything in 2 goes easy.
-
Ah, I see. You and I took completely different paths in year 2 then. I mostly did Strikes, and left the Raid alone because it was boring and the rewards were absolute and complete trash. The variety of the Strikes was more attractive and fun for me, and 3oC gave me a path to high levels. For me, the Strikes are stupid easy. I thought it was that way for everyone. Light level is only 260. The Raid is still a challenge for me, I have completed it on normal a few times, never hard. No reason to do it when the rewards suck so much. I loved both of the old Raids though. The only issue then was finding a team to do it.

I didn't say strikes were hard, just that you tend to fight more yellows and larger waves of adds in strikes than you actually do in kings fall. It's in strikes that different weapons can fit different situations really well. I wasn't really thinking of the raid for this conversation because for each fight there's a pretty clear optimal loadout that never changes. I don't think that necessarily holds true in strikes.
