I see posts like this a lot and I think people are missing the point. The OP does not want crucible reputation or marks. All he wants is to be able to purchase faction gear instead of vanguard gear. Only problem is you can only purchase faction gear with marks. Currently he is doing the only thing he can to get those items.
This is a huge flaw in game design in my opinion as all of the hype before launch was play the way you want to play and make your own legend.
I think, and reading the OP comments I think he feels the same, that if you only want to play PVP go for it and you should be able to earn top level gear from that. I think they fell short when you couldn't get full level 30 gear from iron banner. Hopefully they fix this.
And if you only want to play PVE then all aspects except for those specific to crucible should be available to you. In the end you can hit 30 with raid gear or crucible gear. But you will not get raid gear from crucible and you will not get crucible gear from raid.
Faction gear is separate all together you can gain rep from either PVE or PVP so you should be able to purchase with currency from either. Or make them specific to either PVE and PVP. But both should have additional options for gear besides vanguard quartermaster and crucible quartermaster.

No, no not at all. You need to read my post again. I want the mats for marks back cause PvP is not something I want to play and it is being forced in us. All I really want is to "Create my own legend" and a horrible PvP is not how I care to do it. I know a lot of the PvP crowd are the type to "TL:DR" and then comment anyway but try reading first.

*sigh* once again you missed the point. They had a system in place that allowed people to buy from factions and play how they ENJOYED playing. Now that has been taken away. Both exchange systems should be in place so PvPer's dont have yo play PvE and vice versa. I dont know how that's so mind blowing to you.

You fail to see this is an unreasonable request due to the fact it would involve bungie admitting they messed up.. And we all know the chances of this none so all thats left for you is a new good solution with same end result if you dont have one you have noo room to criticize.

It's an unreasonable request because the developers would have to admit they where wrong? Are you serious? Did you really mean to say he's being unreasonable because Bungie screwed up? I hope it's not unreasonable to suggest that factions vendors accept crucible and vanguard marks for their items.
For all i know bungie doesn't think its a mistake i was trying to be open mined its close minded folk like you that can only be stuck on one idea.
That is very presumptuous of you to imply that I am close minded, especially sine this exchange is the first we ever had from my knowledge. I was pointing out his request for a system that allows a pve player to buy faction gear, especially if that player can gain rep in PVE for that faction, is not unreasonable even if that means the developer would have to admit fault with the current system.

Nicely worded and I agree. The only thing I don't agree with is the factions accepting both currencies. It makes no sense thematically. The vanguard, crucible etc... are diffent factions. None of what you pay is actual money so they shouldn't share. The factions have different goals and themes so they should have different currencies. Dead Orbit wants to build a fleet? Why can't you find salvage to give them in exchange for gear? Why not get medals for PvP kills when you are with FWC and turn those in for gear? Why they didn't do that, I'll never understand. But as it stands now, the system is fine. Everyone's known since before launch that the factions were PvP vendors. Chances are that bungie never intended pve players to use mat exchange to buy faction fear, but to instead supplement mark intake from crucible. The same is true for vanguard.
-
I agree with you about that; if i get a request from my vangaurd mentor to do something extriodanary(ly mundane) as kill 2 foes with one fusion blast 20 times or kill a high(ly not) value target while wearing a FWC armlet then I should be recognized with in that faction i am representing by going up in their ranks. And though they reward you with a chance to equiped their sanction gear, chance being the important word, it is mechanically unfair to PVE players that factions only take PVP currency when rank can be increased in both activities. The old trade system accommodated both PVE and PVP players. This new does not.

The system is fine to me now. PvE players shouldnt have PvP currencies to purchase PvP items with at all. There should have been more PvE vendors. I mean, it never affected me, but I didn't care either. I think its fair they be gifted items for the level up, but material exchange was always weird to me. Honestly, they should just sell faction shaders, and expand Vanguard and the gunsmith. That would fix the issue.
-
Well, bro, I respect that is just how you feel... I am a little confused as to why believe Faction Vendors sell exclusively PVP weapons and armor, especially when Dead Orbit's goals seem very PVE in that they want to go out to the stars to new places and settle their. Or FWC sends me on random scan this missions while I Patrol the Cosmodrone. If the Gun Smith sold FWC weapons, then yes, that would fix the issue. Might bring up questions as to why he's selling them to me and not Lakshima but w/e. Maybe I didn't read enough cards but I don't remember any of the Grimore specifically stating the purpose of Factions where soley for PVP. FWC thinks war is inevitable, New Monarchy wants to reclaim what was stolen by the Darkness, Dead Orbit wants humanity to migrate and move on. Other than the FWC, I don't see how any of that could be translated to New Monarchy gear is for "PVP players to buy but you PVE guys can have some if you run a few errands for us." To top it off, most people I see running in PVP are wearing Raid gear and exotics. Very few people even use Faction Gear in PVP.

THANK YOU! This is my entire point, the factions should be taking both vanguard and crucible marks, if they want to keep the exchange out of the game then just do that. Make the Crucible Vendor and the Vanguard Vendors the ONLY ONES that take just a single type of mark.
