I think the police officer knew it was a mistake buddy. He rushed to him after realizing what he had done and cried his goddamn eyes out afterwards.
The cop can't search your vehicle regardless of whether you're in it or not; getting out really isn't necessary at all. Sounds like you just enjoy being confrontational.
Which makes it all the more disgusting that he shot an innocent person. He SHOULD be crying, he did something extremely disgusting, that doesn't justify his crimes.
Cops often make things up to search your vehicle, I do everything I can to prevent it. Exercising your rights is not at all being confrontational. It's not necessary at all to stay in your vehicle.
Are you thick? I never said it justifies his "crimes". People feel bad when they make mistakes of that amplitude. He feels bad. He -blam!-ed up. He feels guilty. What normal human beings do.
I never said it was necessary to stay in your vehicle. I said you should. In fact, you don't really have a reason to step out. Unless your intention is to be at the same height as the officer, which I would consider confrontational if it's your only reason, there's no reason to step out. You can do everything from inside your vehicle.
And? I'm glad he feels bad about the horrible thing he did, that doesn't magically wipe everything away, he should still be held accountable for his actions and negligence.
No, you shouldn't. You have plenty of reason to step out. The officer has no business nosing around your vehicle looking for trouble. Exercising your rights is not at all confrontational, otherwise you're saying every cop in existence is. There's no reason you can't do everything outside of your vehicle.
