Video completely relevant, by the way. I'm currently in college, and the "liberals" that I see aren't aiming to make everyone poor. I see them being politically active more towards LGBT rights and adding more money towards Education rather than defense. However, for the "conservatives" in my college, they're doing the opposite: Preaching religious teachings in the open forum, condemning people who are gay, and saying that we need more defense in case we have our "tyrannical" government takes over. I've been to both, and there's a very good reason why one side seems much more favorable than the other side. While I have conservative roots due to religion and family, I agree more with the "liberals" in my college since I haven't been berated by them at all. As for the "conservatives", I end up walking by, and they ask me if I'm straight. I'm asexual. Apparently, if you're asexual, you're also paired up with LGBT people and I'm going to be sent to Hell and I'll be smited, or something like that. This was after he shoved a bible into my hands. I guess you can say it depends on the age group. I see more of the "younger liberals" fighting for civil equality and education reform, while the "older liberals" are fighting for wealth equality.

  • I have a very hard time believing what you're saying. I go to a southern college and we rarely have any "conservative" demonstrations. And I doubt someone just asked what your orientation is as you walked by. The most that ever happens is people pass out bibles. But I guess anyone can lie on the internet.

  • I've had similar stuff happen at my college campus. There's a bunch of conservative, religious nutjobs who stand just outside the campus grounds every day with a megaphone shouting that we shouldn't be going to college. Their reasoning is that college and our education in general is apparently a liberal indoctrination tool. They've also yelled out "College is the tool of the devil, Gods love is worth more than one thousand PHDs!". Just because it doesn't happen in your area doesn't mean it doesn't happen at all.

  • In this town, the community college doesn't have Conservatives doing that with megaphones, but it is common in the open forum of the school where they'll do this and hand out bibles, even to people who aren't willing to take one, even out of pity. However, at the UC is a different story. The community college here has a somewhat active LGBT equality movement compared to the UC, where a big portion of the students and teachers are very active in LGBT equality. The people in the UC are very warm and welcoming to people who are gay, lesbian, transexual, asexual, it doesn't matter. They're willing to help anyone that needs help, as long as they are treated the way they treat the people they serve.

  • May I ask where you live? I assume this happens in areas that aren't really conservatives. Because if they did that here, they'd basically be preaching to the choir.

  • California, my town though is fairly conservative. Seriously, during the 2008 election I couldn't go two days without hearing someone talk about how Obama was apparently a Muslim born in Kenya. Can't wait to finish up school and hopefully move to either San Fransisco, Seattle, or go grab my Canadian citizenship and head on up to Vancouver.

  • I thought about moving to Canada one day. Anyway, I kind of figured it would be in a liberal state. It's basically the opposite in my conservative state where the left protests a lot more than the right.

  • Whatever you think. This town is mainly conservative, but in the colleges in this city, as long as you have approval by the student union, they will set up a schedule to have time in the open forum. Sorry that I had a personal experience that went very sour with your political party. But from my perspective, if someone who says I'm going to burn in Hell even though I used to be Catholic just based off of my sexual orientation rather than the deeds I do, I'm probably going to hold them and their opinions with little to no value. There's a reason why I have dissent in a negative light for the "conservatives" both on Bnet and in this city and there's a perfectly good reason why I dissociated myself from the Catholic church in favor of a more moralistic path by serving the community and not being a chauvinistic douchebag to people that have different sexual orientations than I do.

  • Well I'm sorry you had to experience that. In my opinion, I try to disassociate myself from that type of thinking. I'm a republican and all, but I can't morally bring myself to hate someone based on orientation since they can't help it. In all sincerity, it's kind of sad that it's 2013, nearly 2014 and we still think that way. I'll just put it this way, I don't agree with most conservative social policies, only the economics. We're not all douches, I promise you that. But when they insult you, let them know they only hurt whatever they're trying to accomplish. It should make them think twice.
