I plan to play Destiny for its Halo-ness, and its Bungie-ness. If it turns out like Borderlands, I suppose I'll accept it, but what I really want is a sequel to Reach, and Halo 4 just didn't do it for me.

Virtually nothing in Halo is anything new, but it did everything very well and made other developers put thing from Halo into [i]their[/i] games, thus popularizing those already-established concepts. Motion trackers, for instance, are best remembered in Halo but weren't invented by it, and a lot of FPS games have them now because Halo made them popular.
