I’m not so sure Sony wants to take over Bungie.
You’d think with how poorly upper management has handled things, they’d already be running the show.
But they aren’t.
They are applying pressure though.
My guess is the success of the mobile game and Marathon will play into it for sure.
Tyson is making some pretty bold changes next year so that will play into to it as well.
D2 numbers aren’t bad either, even with its issues it remains a popular game.
Destiny is a cash cow and Sony understands that.
Beyond D2 there is a plethora of different ways it will make money.
With that said all live service games are plagued with bugs and issues. Not acknowledging that really is viewing it as the grass is greener.

It certainly seems the case. However, I wonder as well, if Sony has applied some level of pressure behind the scenes, as I think optically, it would look better if Bungie retains a majority of their independence.

Yeah, much of Bungie’s independence hinges on the success of the mobile game and Marathon. I think the mobile game has a lot more chance for success. I do like a lot of the proposed ideas for gameplay shake ups & Innovation is what the game has been sorely missing.

D2’s numbers aren’t good either. They certainly could be better. With good gameplay and great feeling shooting mechanics, Destiny 2 should be doing better. I know it’s an older game… but that’s just all the more reason to put forth some substantive changes and innovation that could attract more players. Some of this stuff is low hanging fruit, especially in the QOL category.

I understand that games are buggy, especially older live service games, that’s not my issue at all. My issue is the priority in which bugs are addressed. I’m still seeing a bug that renders my character as a large foot in the menu. This has been in the game for over 12 months, while a bug that allows players to benefit, or actually makes the game more fun, is taken care of in sometimes hours.
Quest bugs that hinder progress, visual and audio bugs are bugs that can turn new and returning players off from the game. Fixing bugs that don’t dramatically hinder or harm the player experience is bad from an optical standpoint. As a side note, I would consider matchmaking that results in 8 devastating losses in a row(in quickplay) as being a bug as well. Quickplay is one of the biggest portions of the F2P experience, and terrible lobby balancing can’t be doing anything good for the numbers either.
