"Don't over deliver. If you're going to ship more, commit." That's what it means.
"If we pushed to make 2 raids in one expansion, and couldn't sustain it, anything less than 2 would be a disappointment. People wouldn't simply enjoy the extra raid, they'd be expecting two next year"

xbroggiexにより編集済み: 8/12/2023 2:28:40 PMI think the part where that entire argument falls apart for Bungie is if you price the expansions the same. If the expansion with 2 raids costs more than the one with only 1 raid then that would be logical that you'd get less for the price. Would people be disappointed? Sure. But they wouldn't be as outraged as they would be if the expansion with 1 raid cost the same as the one with 2. They already know this as that's why say Rise of Iron cost less than Taken King or Shadowkeep cost less than Forsaken. People are pissed at Lightfall because not only did it cost more than Witch Queen it delivered less quantity and quality.

Lightfall beats Witch Queen in the quality that matters most to me: all new powers. Criticisms about the failure to explain the veil or the witness have been duly thwarted, delivered very shortly after launch. Terminal Overload and Partition are stronger than Wellspring too. Witch Queen had stronger first impressions, but Lightfall will age splendidly imo
Lightfall beats Witch Queen in the quality that matters most to me
"tHe VeIl!!!" "yOu AnD rOHan aRE oUr OnLY hOPE!!!!!" The campaign was shorter and the missions had less intricate encounters most of which were over in the blink of an eye. Lightfall sucks in every aspect. Campaigns narrative was bad, the missions were bad. Raid? Also, bad. Strike? Meh, its so short its basically a lost sector. The rest of the activities are not even anything remotely interesting or anything to write home about. Neomuna patrol is more of a ball ache to play because of inflated enemy health yet rewards did not increase. Worst part is that ball ache isn't even difficult its a ball ache because everything is so easy yet just takes so long to kill anything. Wellspring > Partition and Terminal Overload. Why? Rotating bosses, more unique loot tied to it an extra Master difficulty and it grants Ascendant Alloy. Oh, and the loot tied to is craftable and has 3 exotic glaives.

xbroggiexにより編集済み: 8/15/2023 3:20:50 AMIt took them 6 months to explain what "the veil" was in an activity most players did not know about which was hidden in the bottom corner of a map no-one really wants to play on. If it has overwhelmingly negative/mostly negative reviews on steam there is definitely something wrong with it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1945340/Destiny_2_Lightfall/ Compared to Witch Queen https://store.steampowered.com/app/1656330/Destiny_2_The_Witch_Queen/ Which has mostly positive. You can personally like Lightfall, doesn't mean it isn't a terrible expansion with many flaws. I liked CoO but I ain't gonna say it was better than Forsaken or Warmind.

xbroggiexにより編集済み: 8/15/2023 3:31:51 AM"Overall reviews aren't indicative of the quality of the product!!!!" holy cope.
Something other than expected =/= bad
It costs more yet delivered less. That would in fact objectively be bad. Best part? Calus the final boss just being a Gladiator and Coloussus, couldn't even give the campaign boss unique attacks or mechanics like Savathun had in a cheaper expansion.

TheYesAndTheYallにより編集済み: 8/15/2023 4:04:19 AMIt "overdelivered" on the "underdelivery" of Witch Queen, which had no subclass. The argument about "poor story" holds no water. 8 years of Destiny we wondered... what is Light? What is Dark? In S15, we find we should be less worried about Dark and more about The Voice in the Dark. In S16 we see this Voice, and it is The Witness. Knowing the Witness exists, the story raises 3 questions. 1. Who is The Witness? 2. What does the Witness want? 3. Can we defeat The Witness? We obtain half an answer to no.2, and a full answer to no.3. Lightfall doesn't fail because it chooses not to answer all three questions. Unanswered questions are not failures. There's another word for unanswered questions. Intrigue. Lol! We readily understand the development cycle of Destiny, for instance, Season of the Deep was feature complete and fully written /before Lightfall launched./ The overwhelming bad-faith criticism of Lightfall's narrative was like being upset your questions were unanswered in Chapter 32 and 33 of a novel. Lo and behold... the answers were literally one chapter later! >But that stuff is getting removed! Yes! And until we play Final Shape and see how it chooses to review the past year of content, we may only speculate on its ability to lead along hypothetical new players. Another complaint overblown by pearlclutching, philistine reactionaries. Also, save your breath about "white knighting" or "meat riding." It simply shows you have no rebuttal and you're a lousy, lazy sheep to your cynical YouTube overlords. Cheers

But without playing Season of the Deep how would you know what the Witness is or what even the Veil really is or what the Witness intends with it?
The argument about "poor story" holds no water.
>introduce new characters near the climatic conclusion of a major arc and wonder why no-one gave a crap about that one cloud dude that died. Other guy will be forgotten to since he is a destination vendor. Neomuna simply existing is bad story telling and the way they just sort of gloss over it is hilariously bad. Then the story of "tHe PyRAmiDS aRe CoMIn!!!!" which has now led to them promptly leaving AGAIN with a whole "well just play the seasons and we'll explain!!!" which feels more like they haven't got a clue where to take the story. The story also has no weight and no stakes.
Knowing the Witness exists, the story raises 3 questions. 1. Who is The Witness? 2. What does the Witness want? 3. Can we defeat The Witness? Strand - The entire narrative was put around this rather than you know the main actual story? "You need to practice strand or you won't be able to beat Calus!!!!" well my normal powers worked just fine in the final boss fight. Osiris - Equally annoying guy that screams at you in very poorly done voice acting for no reason because... he can? That's just narrative how about the recolored moon weapons? or the poorly designed missions? or the dunge- I mean raid that was such a pathetic joke with its mechanic literally just being a slight variation on the Spire of the Watcher dungeon mechanic? Gameplay of Neomuna is horrible with tanky enemies that hardly deal any damage to the player and grant the same rewards as any other patrol destination yet take longer to obtain. The expansion was more expensive than Witch Queen but delivered less on variety and interesting narrative. Just because they may -blam!- pull a narrative down the line in some audio log doesn't excuse the poor execution at launch and the campaign narrative having no understandable stakes. And you are saying that because I have identifiable issues with Lightfall as an expansion I'm just parroting a youtuber which is such a cope its actually laughable.

TheYesAndTheYallにより編集済み: 8/17/2023 12:09:20 AM
Well, they are going with Light and Dark are literally the same and the traveller and veil were once one thing which is such a slap in the face to 10 years of culmination.
Deeply troubling misread. You entirely misunderstood the story.
But without playing Season of the Deep how would you know what the Witness is or what even the Veil really is or what the Witness intends with it?
Without playing since Taken King, how would you know who Savathuun is how she took over Osiris' body? Because there was a cutscene that explained it.
>introduce new characters near the climatic conclusion of a major arc and wonder why no-one gave a crap about that one cloud dude that died. Other guy will be forgotten to since he is a destination vendor. Neomuna simply existing is bad story telling and the way they just sort of gloss over it is hilariously bad.
D1: vanilla and 4 expacs. 5 chapters D2: vanilla and 2 expacs. 3 chapters. Forsaken and annual pass: 4 chapters Shadowkeep thru Witch Queen: 5 chapters a year. 15 chapters. Lightfall is Chapter 28. It's seasons are 29-32. The ending is Chapter 33. Final Shape. Lightfall FINALLY plainly states what Light and Dark are. Lightfall FINALLY starts to hint at what The Black Heart from D1 was. Lightfall FINALLY reveals the fully active power of Ishtar Collective golden age tech. And Lightfall also explained, thru the year long story included in Lightfall, the danger of the Veil, plus why and how we haven't found it before. The people and city of Neomuna are the answers to many, many years of buildup and hypothesizing. You are framing it in every way possible to be "insufficient" when your premise is tortured and your arguments are desperately married to bad-faith reductions.
The pyramids have not left. Another elementary level misread.
Here is a decent question that'll never be answered... if the Witness is just a singular entity that merged why does it need thousands of pyramid ships? Then when he actually does show up he only has like 6 ships?
They are monuments to its conquest and vessels of clarified darkness, the psychic powers of trillions of dead. They're like eldritch batteries.
Lightfall fails because its chooses not to answer any questions in its narrative.
It did. But you misunderstood plain, clear details. This is your fault.
In a separately paid for season which is even worse than just not answering the questions at all.
I literally covered this you midwit. Seasonal stories get covered in the next expansion. You either choose to ignore clearly established precedent or don't know. Both are your own fault.
Veil - not explained yet Osiris screams at you like its urgent
Osiris understands that The Witness created the Hive by deceiving them. He has the brain necessary to understand that if The Witness wants something, it's not good to let it have it. He says this in the first mission. You missed it. This is the most basic possible storytelling and you missed it. Stop the villain from doing what it wants.
Cloud Strider dude 1 - Don't care he died Witness - Wanted Calus to destroy the veil and link to it but not really Cloud Strider dude 2 - Annoying, irrelevant and thankfully relegated to destination vendor so will be forgotten about
You didn't like them. Not the same as bad btw : )
Neomuna - All the people conveniently in cryo pods and in a digital space(and are safe so again no stakes) yet the Shadow Legion never attacks where these cryo pods are or directly attack the digital space.
"The most advanced human city of all time should needlessly endanger its citizens and have no safety mechanisms." Lol. "The Shadow Legion should deliberately disobey the orders of The Witness and kill everyone while going off-task." Lol. "The Witness must only want to kill everyone, like every villain ever. It is unacceptable for it to be focused on a singular goal. If it doesn't kill everybody like Thanos from the only story I've ever paid attention to, it is not a good villain." Lol. The Vex also have been trying to invade the cloud arc for more than a century btw. Edit: also, just played Breakneck. That mission at the Cloudark, where the systems that defend Neomuni citizens are powered, is under attack by the Vex. Lo and behold... the Shadow Legion have rigged it to blow up. Again. A complete misread.
Strand - The entire narrative was put around this rather than you know the main actual story? "You need to practice strand or you won't be able to beat Calus!!!!" well my normal powers worked just fine in the final boss fight.
You fundamentally misunderstand the story. The Witness developed and deployed dampening devices attuned to suppress our latent abilities to wield Solar, Arc, Void, and Stasis, all our /known/ powers. When we overcome the dampening devices, they are no longer deployed, because they are no longer effective. This is the most basic level of storytelling. You missed it.
Osiris - Equally annoying guy that screams at you in very poorly done voice acting for no reason because... he can?
You found him annoying. He was endearing to me. He once said of an impossible mission that we "are equal to the task." His elevated language is a fun contrast exercise against Nimbus. But you don't like fun spritely characters. You don't like obsessed old mentors. So, you're plainly a miserable cynic.
Raid too easy destination too hard. Lol. Skill issue 😅
The expansion was more expensive than Witch Queen but delivered less on variety and interesting narrative. Just because they may -blam!- pull a narrative down the line in some audio log doesn't excuse the poor execution at launch and the campaign narrative having no understandable stakes.
Lightfall has a new subclass. Witch Queen did not. Lightfall Deluxe has the dungeon pass included in the price. WQ Deluxe owners got the key as a freebie, a privileged "try before you buy." You missed all of the basics of the storytelling, like the stakes, because a streamer told you it was bad. Then you wrote off everything interesting that it tried because a streamer told you it was bad. A different execution isn't a poor one. Your narrow expectations left you sad and angry. That's on you.
