I’ve never seen a player using a afk macro in pvp or gambit. I know console players can still do it via cronus but I’ve never encountered it, I always assumed that player reports would quickly stack up and get the afk’er banned/suspended.

I'm not sure about console players, but it's pretty common on pc. People do it for a few matches then actually play for the day. Then repeat that cycle. I think if someone all day every day ran an afk macro in crucible they would 100% eat a ban but people seem to get away fine with doing it a couple games at a time before they actually play.

People use macros for a lot of things in actual gameplay like various speed skates, and as of right now bungies publicly stated opinion is that macros are okay. Adding macro detection only for that use case would be pretty difficult. Either that stance on macros would have to change or its not really doable. Like I said below in the other comment thread my solution also takes one team meeting to determine metrics used to evaluate players "score" and then no more than 2 hours development time. It's just so little effort for such a large payoff in my opinion. It cuts out a problem that sours crucible experiences for a lot of people ESPECIALLY casual and new players at the bottom end of skill based matching, and also rewards players who do well. It's just a good engaging system to make players care as opposed to what we have now.
