PVE was monumentally worse to me. Everyone experience is going to be different i guess. I didn't experience many toxic pvp players and i didn't have to talk much to people in pvp. 99% of talk is call outs. I only played pve because they force me to to get most of the guns. And it was full of toxic people demanding people use specific guns or have so many clears. PVE was not worth playing unless they forced me and then i quit as soon as I got what I needed.
Regardless, of course there's some cross over. But the people complaining about get rid of pvp and posts like this are primarily pve players. And there are plenty of players like my that are primarily one or the other.
In general PvP players seem more toxic. Just tune into a destiny stream and watch some PvE players, all super friendly. Then go watch PvP streams and see them be toxic. Obviously not a blanket rule but I’m almost certain most PvP players behave poorly.
Honestly, I don't watch Destiny streamers often anymore. But nearly all the Destiny streamers i followed don't play Destiny anymore. I rarely watch Twitch anymore outside of the occasional chess stream. Yeah, Queen's Gambit got me.
Regardless, streamer is not indicative of my experience in either pve or pvp. Both pvp and pve streamers are never toxic. From my viewings pvp and pve streamers are so good they can can sleepwalk through hard content. Pvp streamers carry people to the lighthouse. They are good enough to beat other teams essentially 1 or 2 v 3. A streamer helped me get, the adept fatebringer. I literally just popped a bubble and shot the boss. All the hard -blam!- was done by one streamer, breaking shields, killing harpies, preventing teleports, dropping the relic, more dps, rinse repeat. It wasn't remotely toxic cause he was so good he could carry people through most of it. And I don't think being toxic would make him an appealing watch.
In fact the only recent toxic moment i remember on a stream in recent years was in pve, i think it was Aztecross's stream during the most recent raid and one of the other guys was a complete jerk and berating him for using trinity ghoul as an exotic and blaming him for the wipes. Dude apparently wanted a high dps exotic. That's the sort of thing i've experienced. Where you do a nightfall and people get mad at you cause of your class or weapon. And i'm not talking like you don't have any weapons for the champions. I mean you do they just don't like your choice. I've and then there's the just gender or ethnic abuse people spew.
I'm not gonna say there's no toxicity in pvp. Gamers are toxic period. But with pvp where i'd run into toxic people, trials, i don't play much cause i hate trials, and second, when did play i purposefully joined groups that "doing bounties" because people are just trying to get the rewards. Or i join groups that explicitly looking for non-crazy people.
