[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. Posting when and where you are having FPS issues in the game 2. Quitting out of all open apps and browsers while playing to see if there are any improvements 3. • Frame rate simply tanks on tangled shore. Doesn't matter what settings are used. Smooth everywhere else. AMD 3600X, 5600XT and 16GB 3600 Ram. Still get the mouse freeze bug on occasions as well!

  • I know I only have a 1060 and a razer laptop with might be a borderline recommended device setting, but I used to get around 100 fps back even during like arrivals, and suddenly after beyond light I am running 40 to 60 fps on lowest settings, and I am dipping to 20 to 40, and i have done everything like msconfig, changing 3d settings, setting performance to highest, but absolutely nothing has fixed it or after an update or two the settings are reverted back. It's definitely not my wifi issue since I am fine playing other games like league and valorant, so its the game issue... and it seems like for others this issue is not fixed or addressed yet, and its getting worse after this new hotfix just yesterday. Is there anything that can be done?

I replace my rtx2080FE into 6800xt guess what I get.... I think I am the first one on the earth to find the poor perfm of 6800xt on D2 and send feedback through Radeon BUG Report Tool in 2020... It's been more than a quarter, nothing. I don't play D2 any more.... BUNGIE, just give up NVIDIA Reflex. Let's roll back to the ‘stable 140+FPS in crucible’ era, plz.

    • Seems like its not just us AMD fools, just lame the best i can get is 140 in crucible when i should be getting way more. not to mention i can no longer play in windowed full screen anymore. who knew 5900x and 6800xt would tank so hard in the game...

      • The pre-rendered cutscene FPS drop was fixed in 3.1.0.2..... but came back when 3.1.1 was released. I finally found the time to try out the campaign, only to learn it's back now. :(

        • My performance has bottomed out since the last patch. Pre-patch I was averaging 60-80fps consistently, now what happens is as soon as I load in anywhere it starts at a crispy 60 (I locked the fps to that now), then generally when stuff starts hitting the fan i.e. explosions, lots of enemies on screen, etc, it starts to drop, usually to the mid 50's. As time goes on it settles in the low to mid 40's with frequent, unplayable dips into 5-15fps territory. And they are weird dips too like the game is moving in slow motion, then speeds back up again. It makes doing anything more than the simplest tasks impossible. I had updated to the newest Nvidia driver but it was WAY worse on that driver, so I rolled back and the performance is better, but still can't do anything challenging. Spent an entire battleground in basically slow motion. Haven't had performance this bad since Vanilla WoW on my mom's junky HP desktop. 😂 I have done basically all of the above-listed fixes to no avail. I'm suddenly getting maxed out GPU and almost maxed out CPU spikes too. GPU is a 1070 in a laptop, by the way.
https://pastebin.com/AhucM0z3
Hello all, To any mod, please sticky as I believe this will help....... Now I cannot attest to Intel/Nvidia or Intel/AMD users, as I have AMD Cpu and Gpu. However, the following method/principle should be similar. I first tested this when I was gifted my 6900xt a month ago and again after todays update. THANKFULLY I was able to duplicate my results. SO, to start, for any who have a similar setup as my, my specs are as follows: Ryzen 3700x (stock settings) gigabyte aurus master x570 (default settings latest bios) powercolor 6900xt (rage mode) (latest driver) gksill 3600 ram xmp enabled samsung nvme and ssd's I tried every solution I could google with no luck. What did work however was this: If you have an AMD Gpu: in settings // global make sure enhanced sync is off. set anything else to whatever you want. turning off enhanced sync IMMEDIATLEY stopped the stuttering issues, especially stasis in pvp... thank the traveler. In Windows. open disk cleaner, run as admin, delete the shader cache... and thats it.... thats all I did. disable enhanced sync, delete windows dx cache running as admin. I have done this just today after 1. Destiny updated 2. windows updated 3. AMD drivers updated. therefore, having owned an nvidia gpu previously, enabled gsync should be safe, however, if it has any option to enhance gsync, or boost it or whatever, disable that. I am running my monitor and game at 1440p 144hz full screen. I have NOT tweaked or changed ANYTHING else as mentioned in any other post anywhere on the internet as they made no difference. No tweaks to cvars file. no deleting the AMD cache in the software. none. hopefully others can duplicate this issue, and someone can figure out what's going on with the windows dx cache and how destiny and our GPU's are dependent on it and fix this... if this doesn't work??????? i really dont know ya'll.... but i tried. if you have questions I will try to answer them as best as I can for as long as I can. edit// I should also add that certain areas like the tangled shore still have poor fps... however I am averaging across all areas of the game in which I play in 118fps...

          • Hello! after update 3.1.1 my fps stutters a lot, the only place this happened before was in the tower but now its everywhere, crucible, nightfall, gambit, patrol. It goes from 144 to 75 in seconds, its very frustrating. My specs are: Gpu - gtx 1070 evga ftw 2, CPU - i7 10700k, 16 Ram, im running in a ssd, all drivers are up to date and my temperatures are the same as before the update.

            • Still not fixed? I bought a high-end GPU only find it help me better quit the game? What a joke. I haven't logged in for a month. And I don't think I will until you fix the performance on 6800xt. I won't pay for your so-called 'Project Matter'. Sacrifice old players' experiment for developing new IP. Why am I not disappointed... i don't trust you any more bungie

              • There is an issue going around with freezing, stuttering, and crashing that happens whenever the inventory is opened or when you first load into a game or world. It makes the game unplayable.

                • Can you guys address "Enable Forced Multi Threading" in CVARS, in tangled shore i can't pass 60fps on an rx 5700x with a ryzen 7 3700x @4.2. Enabling this setting doubles my FPS, but enables bad screen flickering. Please address these optimization issues, I love this game, but it hurts playing sub 60fps on pretty good specs.

                  • I have an update. I recently fell back to an older AMD driver, specifically 20.4.2, which basically fixed this issue in all areas. Tangled shore now is up to 110 fps from 45 on newer drivers, and most other areas can reach my max framerate limit of 200 with no problem. The problem I have right now is that Radeon Settings updates itself and then can no longer work with the driver, so it resets profiles and settings to default and I can't access it unless I re-install the driver with "factory reset". This deletes all settings and shader caches for this and all other games which is a big annoyance. I'm glad I found a temporary solution, but also upset since it is less than ideal and forces me to use outdated drivers which harms performance in other games. Still need a better solution.

                      • This issue has been going for quite a long while by now, but might as well fill in the info even if this has had no updates whatsoever now. 1. Performance issues happen everywhere except for Orbit, causing the FPS to drop below 60 quite frequently, and going on 30 to 40 average in areas such as the Tangled Shore, raids, and PVP. Heavy stuttering in the latter. 2. Issues persist even without other apps open. What settings I use in the game have no effect on the performance either, as the game runs the same whether I use the lowest settings or I set it to max 3. DXDiag is something I'd rather send privately (plus, Pastebin is currently down for me), but hardware is GPU: AMD RX 6900 XT CPU: AMD R7 3800 XT @ 3.9 GHz RAM: 32 GB @ 3000 MHz Storage: SSDs, so no HDD as the problem Here's to hoping for a nice surprise on this issue sooner rather than later.

                        • The game runs just fine and smooth everywhere EXCEPT crucible. Massive frame drops as low as 2fps and the highest I could have in crucible is 17fps. System Specs: CPU: AMD R5 2500 @ 3.9GHz GPU: AMD RX5700 RAM: 16GB @ 3000MHz Storage is an HDD with 7200RPM if that makes a difference. Other multiplayer games like Apex Legends, Overwatch, Modern Warfare, and Cold War run at over 60+fps. Destiny 2 is the only game where the crucible multiplayer is unplayable for me.

                                • I got Ryzen 3600, 16GB RAM, RX 480 8GB @ 1350 MHz I just rolled back to Driver 20.4.2 from the latest (21.2.3) and I got significant performance back. The tangled shore is running above 60, stuttering gone. I believe drivers above 20.4.2 have some issues with Destiny results in poor GPU usage. I see a lot of people commented on the point. I recommend the engineering team sample performance between 20.4.2 and newer versions. This really sucks for the new 6000 series cards as 20.4.2 doesn't support 6000 series.
