1. Frozen 2
2. Steven Universe Movie
3. Frozen
4. Howl’s Moving Castle
5. Zootopia
I prefer animated movies, if you can’t tell.

Up is the best animated movie I've seen. The visuals in that movie are incredible, and the whole story is really emotional. Honourable mentions go to 9 and Spirited Away, both of which I actually haven't seen in a while, unfortunately.

Up was definitely really good! I have a hard time with these lists because I want to put a lot of movies on here. It’s really hard to choose! >.< Spirited Away is probably my second favorite Ghibli movie behind Howl’s Moving Castle. Honestly, though, everything Studio Ghibli makes—at least that I’ve seen—is kind of amazing. I think Kiki’s Delivery Service would probably take 3rd imo. 9 is that thing with the puppet guy, right? I never watched it but it looked really interesting. Kind of a shame to hear it’s good, because I missed my opportunity to buy it.

I used to love Totoro when I was younger, but Grave of the Fireflies is probably my 2nd favourite Ghibli now.
9 is that thing with the puppet guy, right? Especially since you like Coraline so much. It's another dark fantasy with really creepy, unsettling imagery. Probably more steampunk than surrealism though.
What were your other contenders?
Inside Out and Coco would probably be my next down the line. After that is most likely when I’d start throwing in the rest of the Ghibli movies, namely Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Castle in the Sky. Finally, Moana and Big Hero 6 would probably rank in after them.
I don't think I saw that one. I used to love Totoro when I was younger, but Grave of the Fireflies is probably my 2nd favourite Ghibli now.
Ah man, I was so confused when I first saw Totoro. It was the first Ghibli movie I saw, and I had no idea what was going on. :p I’d probably rate it a bit lower compared to the rest, but it’s still pretty great! I’ve yet to see Grave of the Fireflies. I hear it’s really, really sad, though. I try to snatch up any new Ghibli movies I see when I’m at the store, so I’ll maybe get there eventually! I don't think I've seen the others, though. Coco is the Disney film about the day of the dead, right? I was kinda interested in that but never got around to watching it. But it's also probably the only war movie I actually enjoyed, so there's that too!
Hm.. I wonder if I can rent it on Xbox. Might be a good watch for Halloween!
It will be! I think it's currently on Netflix, if that helps.

I love the whole Day of the Dead theme! I do wish I could find some more games/movies that focused on other aspects of the culture, though. Like, the El Tigre movie, Guacamelee and Coco were all great (at least I think te El Tigre movie was great, it’s been a while), but I’m sure there’s other aspects of the culture that are interesting, too. You like super hero stuff most of the time, right? I think you’d like Big Hero 6!
I didn't either really, but I used to be obsessed with creature design (still kinda am) so I just loved it from a visual standpoint.
That’s definitely one of Studio Ghibli’s strengths on a whole; their creature designs are really good! . . . Well, except maybe Ni No Kuni. Most of those ones weren’t great.
It is really sad. But it's also probably the only war movie I actually enjoyed, so there's that too!
I didn’t even know it was a war movie. I was thinking it was about some sort of enchanted firefly forest or something. :p
It will be! I think it's currently on Netflix, if that helps.
I don’t have Netflix unfortunately, but the Xbox store has it for, like, $4, so I can probably watch it there!

Like, I love Ancient Egypt. But good look finding any representation for it in fiction outside of mummies and the occasional misrepresented Anubis.
You like super hero stuff most of the time, right? I think you’d like Big Hero 6!
I suddenly remembered that I did actually see that. I remember the villain being pretty weak but I loved the robot guy. If I'm remembering the right movie, anyway.
That’s definitely one of Studio Ghibli’s strengths on a whole; their creature designs are really good! . . . Well, except maybe Ni No Kuni. There are some magical realism elements in places, but it's mostly grounded and realistic.
Yeah, that's an issue in general. Like, I love Ancient Egypt. But good look finding any representation for it in fiction outside of mummies and the occasional misrepresented Anubis.
Well, and the occasional pyramid level in *insert platformer here*.
I suddenly remembered that I did actually see that. I remember the villain being pretty weak but I loved the robot guy. If I'm remembering the right movie, anyway.
Yep, that sounds right! The villain definitely wasn’t the strongest motivation-wise, but jamblasted if he wasn’t super cool in terms of powers & design! And I definitely love Baymax! He really makes the movie!
Nino Kuni was a Ghibli production?
It was! That’s actually why I picked it up in the first place! While I really enjoyed the game, though, I couldn’t help but just wish it was a TV show the whole time. The animated cutscenes were the best part of the game!
Yeah, I think it's the Hiroshima bombing it's based on. There are some magical realism elements in places, but it's mostly grounded and realistic.
Huh, yeah that is absolutely nothing like the picture I had in my head! One of these days I should just go online and grab all the Ghibli movies I haven’t seen, rather than just nabbing them off the shelf when they pop up at Walmart every so often. Though, I did just remember, for all my love of Studio Ghibli movies there was one I actually didn’t like; Only Yesterday wasn’t very good.
Let me know what you think!
I will!

It had a neat idea with it. Half the movie took place in the present, with the main character working on this farm, while the other half took place in flashbacks to her childhood. I just didn’t care at all about anything happening on the farm, though. All of the drama & character development was all in the flashbacks, so that’s the only part I cared about.

I remember seeing it in the bargain bin back when I worked at Walmart, and it immediately grabbed my interest. I kinda had an issue working at Walmart where I kept buying more movies than I ever actually watched, so I never actually grabbed it. I still haven’t watched everything I bought back then, and that was years ago! >.< Granted, the only thing I have left to watch is Death Note, which I haven’t watched because it’s a series, but still.
