Too broad. Here's my list based on an Action movie bias, with an eye towards being ground-breaking. 1. 2001: A Space Odyssey. 2. Star Wars: A New Hope. 3. The Matrix. 4. The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring. 5. The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King. Honorable Mentions: Independence Day (Not a great movie, but one of the first movies to make use of "modern" CGI to create a size and sense of scale for a movie that wasn't possible before.) Blade (First superhero movie that didn't treat the source material in a cartoony or campy fashion. Without the success of Blade, The successes of the other Marvel movies wouldn't have been possible.)
