It really isn't a bad call. Sure from a minimal story, out of context assumption, it might sound bad. But it's ultimately a good thing.
Just because you just now decided to start playing doesn't mean we haven't played with those guns for over a year, or two. And with that said, you can still use them.
No older weapon is required for any bit of content. Yeah it would be cool to bring in your blast furnace into the grandmaster nightfall but there are plenty of other guns you can use for the 20% of the content you cant use it for.
Its a solid compromise.

Yeah on paper there’s stuff you can do without power being a factor, bc were all grinding gear to take out on patrol and do a 750 strike gtfo of here with that bullshit that is literally the only argument anyone can make in support of sunsetting lol I don’t need anyone telling me what gear I can or can’t use in endgame. If something’s OP like pinnacles then that’s fine put a power cap on pinnacles but 99% of legendary weapons are fine so there’s no reason to cap them at all.

“Just started playing.” My guy I’ve been playing almost daily since forsaken. That’s another huge part of the problem is that players can work this hard and this long for a weapon they really want and take months and months to acquire it, if they get it at all. And to then have that effort restricted to essentially patrols and story missions isn’t a great feeling.

Huh? I mean 1060 will still likely be under quite a bit of the content. Only thing its not gonna be good enough for is current raid and dungeon, and master and probably geandmaster nightfalls. Everything else kinda outside sunsetting. Certainly not just patrols and story missions.
