Its more than just trials itself that is filled with cheaters that is the problem. Its also balance. The game has a horrible pvp state. Everything is a one shot kill it seems, which offers little counterplay or fun interaction aside from 'don't get hit ever no matter what by my one tap gun from some ridiculous range'.
Trials is meant to be super competitive. That is fine. But when everything in the game is some one tap pos gun its not fun (mountaintop, bastion, sniper rifles, long range shotguns, fusion rifles like erentil, arbalest which has arguably the absolute most ridiculous hit box ever seen in this game)
Not to mention the ridiculous supers that people randomly get and win, or do well for 2 rounds and then get which snowballs into more supers which snowballs into a loss.
The worst part for me is that bungie just offers absolutely no response to the dumpster fire they have created. They just let it burn and then demand more money for the next DLC which lets be honest, is just going to be another variety of their favorite gamemode: Gambit. Which itself has made its way into every part of the game from the 2 gamemodes that actively involve picking up the little triangles, to the gamemode that isn't gambit but still focused on that section of the lore, to the raids and public events which center almost exclusively on picking up triangles... went off on a tangent there.
But yeah. Trials is awful and will more than likely never be fixed due to a lack of communication and lack of interest in actually fixing the game from bungie.

I understand the game perfectly actually. One guy on a team does particularly well for maybe 2 rounds and suddenly auto wins a round basically because of super. He then drops orbs which get his teammates supers.
