I wake up and pick my phone to check on OffTopic
I read something about Zombies and get up fast.
My husband and son are home with me, but my daughter is at the school (just 4 blocks away)
We live in a city with 1.5 million habitants, plenty of zombie material out there.
My house is secure-ish, high iron bars separating the front yard from the street, but the car entrance fence is unlocked, I’ll have to go out there and chain it.
Front windows have bars, front door is fortified, but garage door is iffy.
Good thing the garage is so full of crap we can consider it fortified too.
Big glass sliding back yard windows, with no bars. But the back yard is surrounded by brick walls, and the block heart is surrounded by brick houses...so if the houses stand the inner block should be secure. Plenty of ground to grow some food too, no idea how to do it thou.
No guns among the common civilians, so sticks and stones it is.
My mind goes back to my daughter, I try to phone her but as usual she doesn’t answer the phone. Is she still my girl or is she a Zombie now?
Back to prep...We don’t have the habit of buying in bulk here, so...1 gallon of milk, 7 eggs, 1 pound of dry pasta, half a packet of bread, some ham and cheese, 3 boxes of cereal, salt, pepper, olive oil, 2 cats, 1 dog and only 3 rolls of toilet paper. Ok that’s it, fortifying at home is not an option. On second thought I have like 30 bottles of good wine, maybe I’ll stay after all.
As a mental exercise I always thought about stealing a boat from the yacht club in a case like this, it is only 1 mile away, shouldn’t have procrastinated the learning how to sail part.
We have a restaurant, plenty of food there and it is secure too, half mile away. Can we make it?
Living there would be uncomfortable thou, all hard surfaces.
Move by night, use bicycles, pack sleeping bags and clean underwear, take the cats with us? The dog is impossible.
At the end what probably kills me is I run outside, just as I finish writing this, in the middle of the day, with no weapons and no armor, to go and get my daughter.
too long?
Nah, not too long at all! I enjoyed this!
The question is, how rooted are those brick walls? Are they actual walls or are they decorative to give you the illusion of safety and seclusion?
The yacht sounds like a great idea, but not only do you have to get there, with kids and your now at work husband, you also have to stock it. That could become an issue, the lack of space. On the upside, if you all can swim, you really don't need toilet paper, but do you know how to fish & clean fish?
