Lumina dropped earlier today/yesterday, which brought us one of the first, more RPG themed, support guns.
When Lumina kills a unite, the unite killed drops a remnant. When this remnant is picked up, it gives the Lumina user 1 stack of "Noble Rounds" (stacks up to 5), which they then can use to heal and buff their allies.
At first sight, the number of 5 stacks is perfect, since the buff always also applies to the Lumina user, when it is used to buff an ally and the 5 Noble Rounds available can buff an entire raid team.
Which brings us to the main issue: During, most, if not all, encounters available, in which the Noble Rounds damage buff would shine, it not capable of doing so since the damage buff does not stack with the buff provided by Empowering Rifts / Well of Radiance.
The heal is pretty much neglectable since most bosses in their DPS phase don't really fight back and even in those cases, Rifts and Well already provide the entire fireteam with the protection needed, while outside of boss encounters, the need for constant access to healing tools is not really a need we have encountered so far.
The damage buff portion doesn't stack with Empowering Rift / Well of radiance, so in boss encounters the weapon falls flat while outside boss encounters, the need for constant access to damage buffing tools is not really a need we have encountered so far and the "rare" cases in which we do, are usually already dealt with class abilities like Rift and Rally Barricade.
If the weapon is to find any use in PvE activities, it either needs to bring something to the table that no other buff is providing or simply add onto the buffs that already can be provided, because otherwise, there is simply no justification to occupy an exotic weapon slot with a gun that only finds usage in the most niche of scenarios, since all it does provide is some semi-decent quality of life aspects to the fireteam it is used in.
With that being said, I understand that it is the first of its kind, being a support gun, so it will probably need some fine tuning here and there and it is pretty decent in PvE, not absolutely awesome or even broken, but pretty decent.
But I'm just a single person with a single opinion, what do you guys think of Lumina so far, does it cover its niche good enough to justify the exotic slot? Does it do its job well enough as is or do you think it needs buffs/changes made to it?

Kouz_MCにより編集済み: 7/4/2019 6:33:51 AMDid you expect a new meta? This weapon was designed for D1 environments anyway. Great use for certain raids. Absolutely useless in D2. It’s just whatever Bungie found in the closet to improve adu and pretend that they’re doing better now that they’re not with acti, when all the content we’re enjoying g now comes out of acti’s studios! Lol

Disagree. Not everything in this game is about the damage phase of a raid boss fight.

If it did stack with Empowering Rifts and Well of Radiance, this would unbalance the weapon seeing how Blessing of the Sky offers a 33% buff to both you and your ally (depending on who you target) I'm positive this is something that Bungie thought of and made it so Well and Empowering Rifts don't stack with Blessing of the Sky.

draycoleにより編集済み: 7/4/2019 1:29:40 PMAnybody here play Yu-Gi-Oh? Anyway for those who don't. It's a card game where players use monster cards and support(magic/trap) cards to reduce another players life points(basically HP) down to 0. At the start of a match, each player has 8000. One would thing, cards that can increase your life points by a large amount would be useful right? But as the game currently stands, cards like that, even cards that provide thousands of additional life points are completely useless to the player using them Many of you may be wondering "What in the hell does Yu-Gi-Oh have to do with Lumina? Just get to the point nerd" And to that I say. The life points in Yu-Gi-Oh, are the same as the damage buff lumina provides. Even if lumina granted a 75% damage buff. It's too clunky of a weapon in its usage. To see any real play. Just like sunshot. A gun that gives firefly on every kill? Sounds great, but its not. It's this weird kind of power creep that destiny has right now.

I find it fine as it is. It seems to be more in line to support of high levels of ads. This is just my opinion, and well, will probably trigger quite a few but ah well. But it's about time something comes out that Warlocks can't use something to become an even bigger requirement for high end activities. But at the same time, it would benefit all people in the end if this was the case. However, It gives all classes a rather efficient support item. It also frees up warlocks who would like to slap on a DPS super like Nova or Dawnblade, and not be locked down onto Well. I've played Well and it can be a bit boring. But that's just me as I prefer a support/offensive like Tether and Sentinel. And Lumina has both of those factors which I love. I wasn't expecting something meta level. It's a support after all. Besides, if it was able to be stacked with things such as Well, I would think it would break a lot of activities. The one thing I'd like them to change is the tether between the remnant and the player. It's way too short. Same with Thorn. its tether is too short as well. As well as the life for them. They just... vanish when you're so close to grabbing one.
-
My theory is that this is paving the way for a well nerf. A much needed well nerf. Boy do I love my WoR, but it sorta kinda breaks the game a tiny bit.

It really doesnt though lol wtf is wrong with yall? 35% buff isnt good enough for u guys?

Or maybe we've finally got some kind of heal option for raid teams that don't have a well... I was in a 4 hunter, 2 titan SOTP last night that could have used some healing action. -
Until Titans and maybe hunters get a buff then yes until then no dam near Evey dlc raid its always warlocks we already got weapons melting old bosses an new fast we don't need a hand cannon to make raid bosses look like practice dummy's especially am hand cannon and six warlocks.

MC 077 Lasombraにより編集済み: 7/4/2019 11:07:32 PMSo? It’s not meant to be a boss cheese weapon. Or replace Rift or Well. It’s meant for healing while running around in a fight and giving a damage buff. In that regard, it does exactly what it’s meant to. Nothing stops you from...gasp...changing weapons before the final boss...

I think the weapon is fine as is. If used properly, it basically allows you and your team to have a constant 35% damage buff, or at least have it the majority of the time. Gaining that type of buff on top of all the other buffs we can already get though seems like it’d be too out of control.
-
It would be cool, but not everything needs to be Meta level awesome. 35% is a great buff!
-
Jesus you already have it!!?? The minute I saw there was a nightfall as a solo player my head went to to “well dámn it, this is gonna be a while”

https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/252684275?sort=0&page=0 I made a post in opposition to this stance...if you have time, give it a read!

If Bungie change this gun they need to give it full support capabilities. I.e it should pick up exotic armour perks too such as Luna faction boots buff. This would allow it to act as a true support class weapon where we could pass an ally our exotic perk for 10 seconds.
-
You severely underestimate the 35% PvE damage buff that Lumina gives as it stands

US Reaper xにより編集済み: 7/4/2019 1:21:01 AMThough I have not directly tested this myself, I assume the Noble Round “Blessing of the Sky” buff does stack with well of radiance/empowering rift. At the games pre-Lumina state, all buffs stack. The only buffs that technically don’t stack are empowering rift and well of radiance, but you can just think of the well simply harnessing the same exact buff as the empowering rift/taking the place of it and just increasing the damage buff of it slightly. All other buffs: Frontal Assault, Empowered, Striking Hand, etc. stack. Conversely, most debuffs: Melting Point, Tractor Cannon, Tether, Shattering Strike, do not stack. With that being said, being a buff, I highly doubt that bungie would change their system of how buffs affect players with this gun. It would make Lumina the outlier.

I think the use of the weapon isn’t for boss DPS, I think it’s place is leading up to that part. Helps in survivability during intense ads or helping weaker players survive. I think it’s uniqueness is cool. We have plenty of DPS weapons. Swarm, wendigo, etc. Plus empowering teammates in crucible. You can one tap if you empower a Sturm user or a monarch user. It’s a support weapon bottom line, I like it.
-
It kind of makes sense that it doesn't work, it would be very over powered if it did work. We already burn down bosses pretty easily so another 35% damage on top of what we already do would be kind of insane. That being said it still has its uses, it can be used more often than a well and so it is meant for those inbetween times and for that it is still pretty amazing.
-
With how stupid good spike nades are and loaded question taking the energy slot, it definitely fits an exotic space as is. Optimal load outs in PvE with consist of Lumina, Loaded and Wendigo or Spike Nade Launcher. This weapon doesn’t need a buff. It’s really good. The load out mentioned above is going to wreck any content.

I read the counter topic to this and I understand where they're coming from (support team in between dps to keep people alive etc) but WoR still makes their point moot. The healing associated with the gun needs to be improved for it to fill that role. Hell, have it give a small overshield or something. But as is, it's a cool idea that isn't quite there. But Ima try to use it for everything and see how it goes
