My theory is that this is paving the way for a well nerf.
A much needed well nerf. Boy do I love my WoR, but it sorta kinda breaks the game a tiny bit.

Truth has been spoken. Well Trivializes the vast majority of all encounters in this game Need optimum DPS, you're gonna bring a well with lunafactions, its borderline required for every single endgame tier encounter (unless its reckoning which you change to phoenix protocol and have unlimited supers all the time) Need a "god mode" cheat code when you're 20 under light, well saves the day Well makes Warlocks too good at damage, and it would be great for just the single player buff that it gives, but hold on it STACKS with a 50% BUFF to you AND YOUR TEAM that you get back almost instantly in a raid group. do keep in mind that you can stack tractor cannon as a debuff to buff damage further. Sure the super on its own doesn't really do anything to kill hordes, but who needs it to when you can just shoot a loaded question with the luna-well under it and kill everything in the room with 2 shots that have the perk. I like the idea that the super is a bit more vulnerable during general content, like if an enemy shoots it enough it can break so you have to be quick and decisive with your placement of it.

It literally trivializes every piece of content right up through the raids. I love Well too, but we can’t keep pretending like we have “challenging” content with a super that makes you invincible paired with an exotic that still gives you back your super insanely quickly if you’ve got your team killing in it.

But the well is considerably stronger than the bubble. The bubble offered a single buff - damage, and it offered protection with the trade off of not being able to attack your enemies. The well gives you very strong healing combined with the damage buff the well gives you. You’re nearly invincible while being able to fight enemies that you get a boost against.

Unlike Well, Ward of Dawn allowed one to customize it for longer duration or more orbs when it was damaged. If Well is to be nerfed, then they should make the sword in the middle more vulnerable to combatants. That would require a more strategic placement, which I think is a fair trade off.
