It seems to me that you're taking your unfortunate experience with Raiding, and using it to criticise the core structures of a Raid.
The only way to gain experience in Raiding is to Raid. I don't think I need to explain that, you seem like a competent person. But there are many people in the same boat as you. Raids, not just in Destiny, but in all MMOs or otherwise tend to be the longest pieces of content. I don't think you don't want to do Raids anymore. I think it's possible for you to get the Raid experience you want, which in my mind is something like Raiding with 5 other decent people, both in terms of play experience and personality, and to complete a Raid in a fairly short amount of time while also having fun. This is definitely possible. You just need to find people you like and Raid with them as often as possible.

I just don’t like timed synchronized swimming like activities or playing death defying timed games of match the pictures in the wall. I don’t like convoluted mechanics that are basically just arduous trial and error. It’s just not fun for me. I like to do as much as possible solo. Which is like 98% of the game counting matchmade activities where I can enter into said activity solo, not talk to anyone, get what I went into it for, and leave solo. I never could get into traditional MMO’s, and if that’s how raiding is I can tell I’d feel the same about it in those games. I struggle to see Destiny as anything other than a pseudo MMO. It’s more like.... an MO. I’d just MUCH rather spend my time in the public areas and wish that there were both random and player triggered events in those areas that were comparable in difficult to raids, but in a different way.
