...it was one of the best Destiny experiences I've had in a long time.
I've been playing Destiny since 2014. I used to Raid with my school friends every week, run Nightfalls, etc., the game truly was a ritual. Unfortunately early on in Destiny 2's life, all of my friends stopped playing and I was the last person left. I tried to grab matches through LFG's when I could, but mainly played alone. Destiny is best played when you're with your friends, and for a long time now it never felt like it used to because I played alone. But, yesterday changed that.
It was around 1-2am, and I wasn't tired, so I thought I'd look through the Companion App's LFG feature to see what was going on. Was looking to do a Prestige Leviathan run, and saw someone was "teaching his buddy how to do the Raid". In my naivety, I joined thinking they were doing the Leviathan, when in fact they were doing Last Wish. I made a mistake, and even told the guys I was willing to leave if they wanted me to, but they already had two new guys anyway, so they let me stay.
One by one, encounter by encounter, we went through the Raid, figuring stuff out, coordinating and communicating, and having a great time while doing it. Many laughs were had, and when we finally took out Riven's heart, we were all extremely grateful for the company and support we all had going through the Raid (and for the 2nd Eternal Key ;)). It was 6am when we finished. We all added each other, said our goodbyes, and went on our way.
Very few games are able to bring players from all across the world into a friendly environment. Destiny continues to accomplish that. Hats off to you Bungie.
I'm looking to Raid and play more Destiny as we continue through these seasons. If you'd like to join me, my PSN is: sackboy206 - I'd love to make new friends and bring back the feelings I used to get playing Destiny back in 2014, today.
Just thought I'd share this little story with you all.
Cheers,
Vertigo
Edit: Wow. 227 upvotes and counting. Thank you all for the kind words, requests and useful discussions going on in this thread. It's really interesting to hear from you all.
I hate to advertise, and I'm not one to break any Codes of Conduct, but I have been putting a clan together for a long time now, 'Detectives', and I'm looking for people to join, play, and be apart of a chilled-out group of players. If you'd like to join, you can find all the details you need here!

13 通の返信Raids are honestly one of the best parts of Destiny. Why people choose not to do them is beyond me.

1 返信I haven’t even attempted LW yet. Been playing other games and starting to get the destiny itch again. I’ll get my Destiny legs/aim back and look into trying it finally!

4 通の返信Ogma: Destroyer of Worldsにより編集済み: 2/9/2019 6:23:53 PMAfter 3 long, failed attempts of LW(one of which was literally 7 hours of just getting to but not completing Riven), I’m reminded of part of why I took a long break from the series and why I’m about to take another one. I only want to do raids once just to do them because I feel like I’m missing out on part of the universe/story by not doing them, and there is no place for someone like that in this game. They are just not fun to me. And LW just feels SO unnecessarily convoluted. I’ll never play them enough to have the experience required to do a raid with anything other than a group of also inexperienced players, and that kind of raid experience is the polar opposite of what a game should be, fun.

6 通の返信Great post. I'm in the same boat. Ran all D1 raids regularly with a couple of great groups. They mostly fell off shortly after D2 release, however my son started playing more D2 and we've been 2 manning everything except attempting the raids. They're the only content we haven't beat and it'd be great to find a chill group to help us get those first runs under our belts. Not much luck on LFG so far.

2 通の返信Glad it worked out for you. Last time I tried raiding with randoms we spent hours, got to the end, and they kicked me so their friend could join that apparently couldn't survive the path to the end. I never got to finish it and I've not even bothered with Destiny 2 raids since. My people all stopped playing too.

6 通の返信Wtf Destiny didn't do that. LFG did. A third party website. In fact had you NOT gone to a third party site, this never would have happened my guy. Delusions much? Bungie sucks lol
