My understanding is that originally the character Cayde was suppose to be kind of a surrogate of Rasputin. Well... Actually all Exos were at one point or another.. I think he was supposed to get kidnapped at some point and we had to rescue him from the dreadnought which is when we find out that he's been quietly directed by the warmind all this time. Really from day one this game really needed a bot network for in mission events.. Not for high risk strikes, but it would have tied the player to the events of the game a lot more if there was active dialogue and situationally involved characters. They need to work on it in Destiny 2 because you have to fall in love with the characters to truly feel like part of the world... The Taken Wallet kinda helped on that with Cayde but there's still no emotional tie to Zavala or Ikora. Though it does always feel nice when Cayde whispers "don't tell anyone but you're my favorite"
